    Yes the process maybe the same but sometimes the third party softwares makes it easy to perform the task, just saying.

    Well it mostly depends on who you trust with doing the "work" windows which is using the drive 24/7 or a third party software that only formats once and you might even get rid of it afterwards, but yes its mostly just to make it "easier" I guess, (but imo. it is pretty easy to do even without an extra software).

    I doubt it would make a difference with such a large capacity drive, but you can try of course if you have a harddrive with the extra software already on it lets say for samsung ext. hdd's they usually have 3 folders already on the drive out of the box so if you get rid of those that could save some space, but at that point if you are considering saving up space on a Terabyte storage I would advise to get either a bigger capacity one or another one of the same.
