It is a problem for me as I run system backups using scripts, and to do this I need my disk orders to remain in place. I know other people backing up with scripts have the same problem.

I have stuck with the Microsoft driver, as the Samsung driver doesn't offer me much improvement in performance.

There has to be something within the driver that makes Windows decide to change the disk order. Surely it can be sorted out, but I haven't found a reliable working solution. Or is it just a Windows shortcoming?

Use Minitool Partition Wizard to do it. Built in Windows disk Management won't do what you want.
I have a licensed (for life) of Minitool Partition Wizard. I can't seem to find where to do this. Could you or anyone point me in the right direction?

Change the "Disk order shown in disk Management".

Would love to change the way the order appears even if this is not the order in which it boots.

Seems this is a common problem centering around NVMe as main system ("C") drive.

If it were SATA it would be easy to change boot order and make it all look good.

Somehow U and V just don't look right on top of A and B.

Nobody said that Minitool Partition Wizard could do what you say you want to do.
That post to which NavyLCDR responded [about using Minitool Partition Wizard] concerned altering the size of partitions not altering the order in which they are detected/listed/numbered.

It doesn't really matter. It's up to your personal preference. If you do switch your hard drive cables, you might also have to go into BIOS setup and change the boot order to point to the first SATA port if it doesn't do it automatically.
My current motherboard has five NVMe slots and only 4 SATA ports. How do you "switch around" the "cables" for NVMe slots. I know that's a rhetorical question. What's needed is a BIOS feature or maybe a Windows startup script that modifies the registry.
