This is what my PC is displaying now: hd tune error scan — imgbb.com
Did this screenshot give a better idea if I'm doing the right thing or not?

So far so good, it is green. It will take a while to scan the whole drive. You can wake up in the AM and view the results. Please post images into the thread.

This may sound low-tech, but ...
If you're fearful that the drive will soon fail, how about just buy a new drive?

They're so cheap anymore. I added a SECOND 2 tb drive to my new desktop for around $70. Cheap!

Buy it. Install it. Copy everything from the old drive before it croaks. Done.

And disassemble the old drive to get a nice shiny platter (it makes a nice coaster, or a make-up mirror for the misses) and some killer magnets.
This is great advice, but I'm not sure how I can know for certain that the files on my current HDD will be 100% identical to the files that it copies over to the new HDD that replaces the current one...

My vote's for Hard Disk Sentinel - a very quick and handy statement of damaged blocks, if any, and interpretation with projected lifespan or warning that death is imminent, for example.

You can also some specific tests including a surface scan.

Can be left running to monitor continuously, and set whatever alerts you want, including an email option.

Too late now, you will never know. If you don't do backups you are stuffed. I have 3-4 copies of important stuff, not 1 on a 'maybe working' drive.
Professional data recovery costs a fortune.

You can use a freeware program to either copy and verify your copy, or you can copy and then use a freeware program to compare and verify afterwards.

    Example:
15 Free File Copy Tools Tested for the Fastest Transfer Speeds • Raymond.CC
    2. ExtremeCopy Standard 2.1.0
There are 2 different version of ExtremeCopy, the standard free one and the full shareware version. Functions such as copy or collision options, window position, failed file recovery and the buffer size are disabled in the free version, but you can still integrate it into Explorer to take over the standard Windows file copy functions. Pause, skip and verify are also present.

A search engine can help you find such things.

    Your reply is appreciated!

Why is it too late now for me to know for 100% certainty that the files on my current HDD will be 100% identical when they're copied to the new HDD that replaces the current HDD?

Okay I just completed a scan of the hard drive using the free version of HD Tune 2.55.

    Is there anything wrong?:

You should also look at the SMART params- different tab on that utility.
To post a screenshot- use the Insert Image icon above your post to the left of the video icon.

Thanks, but I just checked and I don't see the "SMART" tab?

I see these 4 tabs in HD Tune 2.55:

    "Benchmark" "Info" "Health" "Error Scan"
