Hit it with a hammer, assuming you are going to dispose of it afterward.

    Physically destroy it.

IDK - does Samsung Magician work on their SD cards?

To securely erase the card, you need to EITHER physically destroy the card (render into sub-2mm˛ particles) OR use a utility (from the vendor) to trigger the secure-erase function.
Multiple writes (of random data), or reformatting will NOT necessarily remove the data.
How can I completely erase all data on a (micro) SD card? - Ask Ubuntu

Simply writing zeroes or random data will not secure erase it.

Modern non-volatile solid-state memory uses wear leveling to stop repeated read/writes overusing any particular section of the memory. (See: searchsolidstatestorage.techtarget.com/definition/wear-level*ing) This means that data writes intending to 'overwrite' may actually be saved elsewhere. It also means that the true memory capacity is several 100 times more than stated, to allow for on-going reallocation. As noted in my answer, you must invoke the manufacturer's secure-erase function, to bypass any 'wear leveling' effects.

    If I may hijack...

Are micro-SD's all that? especially given it's price - I always seem to have issues with it... sometimes it's being recognised, others not... often have to push-click the thing before it shows as as accessible (.. oh and I mean for those that don't use it in camera's etc)

It's what my Raspberry Pi's use as the hard drive. I don't have much choice but to buy Micro SD cards for them. And just to keep me on my toes, some model Pi's are click lock and some are friction lock card slots. Most of my readers are for full sized cards so I end up using a Micro SD to SD adapter. My camera on the other hand uses a full sized SD card.

I have about a dozen Micro SD cards on the go and knock on wood, no failures yet. And some have been reimaged many many times. Plus, as I mentioned above, most are being used as the boot drive and see a good number of reads and writes. I buy good quality name brand class 10 cards from reputable sources. That's one thing I won't buy on e-bay etc. To many fakes etc. Most of mine are SanDisk Ultra's.
