Seeing four NVIDIA HD audio devices isn't unusual. But those are from the graphics card. NVIDIA unlikely to use Realtek's drivers.
I see lots of variants of the HP Pavillion 6100 (could you be more specific?). You could have onboard as well that's not detected by Windows (could be disabled in BIOS).
When you first boot the machine and the HP flash screen appears, it should show you the function key to press to enter Setup Menu (that's BIOS). Usually F10 for HP. Start tapping as machine powers on. If it gets past the HP flash screen, you missed your chance to get into BIOS. Shutdown and start again. Look for onboard / integrated audio option. Make sure it's not disabled.
Well thanks for the advice everyone, I schlepped my machine back to the shop that did the upgrade,they corrected the sound problem in less than an hour.
