    @cereberus
    I actually created four partitions on the Flash drive from within CU and it still remains a local fixed hard disk. Thanks for your suggestion.

    As a side note for everyone, this Flash drive also shows as local fixed hard disk on a another computer.

    @simrick,
    Thanks for the replies and the suggestions. After spending the day searching the internet, I cannot find any way to return this USB flash drive to a Removable type. I will just chalk this one up to collateral damage and move on.

    So strange...
    I just had an SD card go bad on me yesterday. It did not show as a fixed drive, (and I could transfer most of the data off it), but it was permanently set at read only, and would not be reset - I/O errors all over it, so I cut it in half and threw it out.

    Yes this is really strange. Furthermore we can put this discussion to an end, since I returned the SanDisk Curzer Glide flash drive this morning to SanDisk for replacement via RMA.

    Lastly, I would like to state that after extensive searching of the internet yesterday I believe that it is highly unlikely that this issue was caused by the WinToFlash software. All I can say is that it was just a coincidence that this issue occurred after using the software and even that is nothing more than speculation. I guess I will never know what really happened.

    Now I am off to restore a Macrium Reflect image that I made three days ago. My system feels grody after all the stuff I installed and tried yesterday to fix this flash drive.

    I would have kept the drive - then you could use it as true Windows to Go drive assuming it had the capacity.

    @cereberus
    Good point and I thought about that. In the end my OCD won out. OCD say USB flash drive must show up as Removable.

    But you can do so much more with it having fixed disk status!

    Hello Windows 10 Forum,

    I am currently trying to find a way of changing an external USB to a USB HDD.

    Despite finding the Lexar USB Format Tool, as yet I have not been able to knowingly change the ‘Flip Removable Bit’ for the USB to be seen as an external USB HDD.

    In addition, I also found a file called ‘USB_LocalDisk’ online where I could try by updating the Driver for the USB.

    To date I have tried and failed with both a Windows 10 Pro Laptop and Windows 7 Pro Laptop.

    Why do I want this?

    It is to copy and transfer Recorded TV Show recordings from an old TV Recorder to a recently purchased new TV Recorder without having to stream with the

    I will look forward to your feedback and potential way that I may be able to convert an external USB to be seen as a Local HDD.

    Kind Regards,
