Ipod will not sync and is not recognized by usb port

I have a Dell Inspiron 24 (7459) 7000 Series with Windows 10. I am unable to get either of my Ipod Nanos (6th and 7th generation) to sync with iTunes. Neither device will sync and does not show up as being connected to the pc. I've tried to resolve the issues by looking at a number of articles and videos with no success. The ipods will charge but are not recognized by the pc. I had issues with my pc a week ago and had to reformat. Before this my ipod worked fine. Any other suggestions outside of what's on the internet?

I don't know whether this works with iPods but it's worth a try:
Right-click the Apple Mobile Device entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver Software. • Select "Browse my computer for driver software."• Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."• Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.• Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.• Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).• Click Open in the Have Disk window. Then, click Next and then Click Finish. Windows will install the driver.

That's another problem, There is no Apple Mobile Device listed on my device manager. I have iTunes installed and the device charges but does not sync and show as being connected when I open iTunes.

Check under Universal Serial Bus controllers, if not there check under Bus devices - iPod should be plugged in when checking..
Things may have changed since I last used that fix.

No, nothing there. I've never owned a Dell and will NEVER own one again. I'm astounded at some of the trivial things with this computer that has turned into rocket science. I did however discovered/remembered there are two more USB 3.0 ports on the left side base of the PC. To my surprise the ipod appears to be working correctly. Why it won't work with the ones on the right side is a puzzle to me. My printer is connected with the one on the right side and works fine. Not sure what the deal is between USB 2.0 ports and 3.0 ports?

Good to hear you have a solution.
Do other devices work using those USB 2 ports? Is the USB 2 driver up to date?

At least the devices I was having issues with do. The USB device for the wireless mouse works in the port on the back of the base of the PC and the left side but not the right. These ports are very fussy things.
