iPhone won,t connect win 10 Pro

    Hi People ,

Iv,e exhausted my troubleshooting skills with this issue .

Problem : No iPhone will connect to my Alienware 13 running windows 10 pro version 1703 build 15063.138 .

There are 3 USB 3.0 ports , One on left Two on right . When I connect to one on left nothing happens ,absolutely nothing .
When I connect to any of the ports on the right the iphone starts buzzing ,flashing . itunes sees the iphone then it disappears , windows sees it then it disappears . This continues in a loop flashing on and off , iphone banner pops out then goes away repeatedly .

In device manager the apple iphone driver is present then disappears for a few seconds then comes back on and off .

Here is the strangest thing , I found apple iphone drivers on line and downloaded unzipped and went through a driver update and browsed to the downloaded drivers and they worked , everything was working both in windows and itunes and I was a happy Easter bunny BUT when I went back later after my laptop had been to sleep the same fault came back ,the drivers had disappeared and when I tried to update them again it wouldnt work .

The iPhones ( 3 off) all work on wifes ,sons and a spare old win 10 laptop .
The cables work on all other laptops and all iphones .

Ive scoured Dell forums ,tried anything and everything suggested , reinstalled itunes latest version . browsed to c:\program files\common files \apple \mobile device support . x 86 too .

I don't know if its a windows or a Dell specific issue .
Its not a hardware fault with iphones or USB ports as all other devices I have work on the ports , USB drives , samsung phones ,DVD drive.

    Any help greatly appreciated .

    Thanks
      My Computer

Does it work on a USB 2.0 port?

It works on everything except the dell alienware laptop and ive tried everything suggested from dell alienware forum .
However when I used a genuine apple cable(borrowed form grandson) I got things nearly working on the dell with only a yellow triangle in portable devices /apple iphone ,so it looks like a genuine cable is a must . So given that I have a genuine apple cable in the post how do I get rid of the exclamation mark in device manager under portable devices apple iphone.
I see something about MTP USB drivers must be used , it needs to be the apple driver but ive went through EVERYTHING to update this and i get an error " windows cant load the driver " or something similar . I have went through the stop / start services routine too .

I don't know whether this will work in your case but it's worth a try.
Right-click the Apple Mobile Device entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver Software. • Select "Browse my computer for driver software."• Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."• Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.• Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.• Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).• Click Open in the Have Disk window. Then, click Next and then Click Finish. Windows will install the driver.

Hi Bastet , Thanks for you help I have done part of this step but not selected the have disc . I browsed to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers but reports windows alreday has the most up to date driver . Ive tried going to usbaapl64 ,right clicking and selecting install , it says installed successfully but nothing changes .
I,m waiting on a new apple cable arriving . I am no expert but believe this is a dell hardware problem as I can connect to another 3 laptops on win 10 no problem and with a cheap cable .

To rephrase my last statement I believe the dell hardware is working fine but there,s a clash somewhere with drivers ( forgive my unprofessional way of putting it )

You are missing Chipset Drivers as well as INTEL RST Drivers and other Drivers.

I suspect that this system came with windows 8 and not 10. Latest version of Itunes must be installed After Chipset and After Old Itunes is removed and system restarted. Also you cannot sync with more than 1 PC at a time and the Iphone must "Trust" the pc that you attach it to.

Iphones and Itunes are not Dell products and not supported here.

Repair Apple Software Update from the programs & features control panel, and then try again. For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates. The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies. The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with third party software. Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed. You did not say you installed the CHIPSET Drivers.
Since this came with windows 8 and not 10 there likely wont be 10 versions.

But you MUST INSTALL the 32 or 64 bit version based on which you have.

And you MUST INSTALL Directx June 2010
Download DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) from Official Microsoft Download Center
And you MUST ENABLE Legacy Direct play in control panel, all control panel items, programs and features, Turn windows features on and off. You have to be ONLINE when you do this because it will insist on downloading from the internet.

DOWNLOADED FROM APPLE NOT MALWARE SITES.
You did not say what version ipod ipad iphone you have or which IOS version.
Newer versions DO NOT SUPPORT older devices.
Download iTunes 12.4.3 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards)

If you haven’t already, try using the recommended installer first.
Current version is 12.6.0 64 bit for windows
iTunes - Download iTunes Now - Apple

I recommend using the steps in the following article:

If iTunes doesn‘t recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod

If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

Some devices don't work well with a non Apple cable, hopefully the official cable will solve the problem.
