Trackballs are great for most task, I even started out playing CoD2 rifles only with a trackball mouse. When I finally got a real mouse, man I was good! lol

Trackballs probably do make more sense on a desktop barring some gaming.

I run three monitors on my desktop PC. With a mouse, to go from monitor 1 to monitor 3 its slid, pick up move back, slid, wash rinse repeat. With my track ball its one or two quick thumb swipes. I have a mouse pad but only because it has a padded wrist wrest. Some people just don't like them and I can understand that. There are a lot more people using mice over trackballs. Still, there must be enough people buying trackballs or they wouldn't be available.
