Probs with a Dell Inspiron 5748

Im running windows 10 on a 2 year old dell laptop 2 years old originally windows 8.1. I had already been in forum confused as to how my hard drive space was nearly 0 . No films, music, games just few programs and pictures. Is it possible that all I download and use , programs etc are being sent to the wrong drive ? The Western digital is only 1TB whilst the laptop has my 8GB of memory. Im really confused . any advice pls ? Ive ran the cleaners and deleted as much stuff as I can , still showing as just about full

    Hi kittenwoman.

Think of the 8GB of memory as the blackboard, the place where you do work where as the 1TB is filing cabinets. Using 1TB is a lot of data unless you have a lot of videos or are avid photographer.

Unless you redirected your user folders to another drive then yes everything is on C: Looks like that is really your only drive (partition) although I can just see one called winretools. This is for recovery. So lets see what is on C:

Click on Start => Settings => System => Storage and finally click on C: at on the left at the top.

Could you screen print and post.

Something doesn't add up here. Your first screen shot was (give or take) 100GB. Your system is reporting another 800GB in use.

Someone, sorry didn't document who, posted this in the last two weeks.

Scan after you download just to be sure.

I would like to think you could id the 800GB without a complete re-install.

Lets see what this tool points out.

I would also think that all spaced used by windows would be reported but you could always enter disk cleanup, then cleanup system files, then click on "More Options" tab. On this tab you can cleanup restore points and shadow copies. If you do these clean ups I would then follow up with creating a restore point and rerunning any Imaging software you may be using like Macrium or Acronis, etc.

If it hasn't already been suggested, have you run a full disk clean (that means using the 'clean up system files' option). I'm wondering if you have some leftovers from the 8.1 to 10 upgrade (assuming you did upgrade and not clean install).
