SSD given up? Potentially motherboard related?

Ok, hey guys hopefully someone can help me out.

Loaded up my desktop and it wouldn't boot from the SSD, though it did show the device as found in the post-bios check. Said Devices - 1. When I reload without the SSD connected it shows no devices.

Whichever SATA port i have the ssd plugged into it stops the check there, so if i plug it into port 6 it checks 1-5 and shows no device then just hangs on 6 for ages before reporting nothing and saying insert operating system disk.
If i plug it into port 1 it loads port 0 and then hangs for ages etc.

This made me think the SSD was busted or something so I tried to boot up a w10 USB and it got stuck on 'Loading Operating System...' and didn't get past that.

The connections were always a bit hit and miss but it has worked fine for the last 6-8 months so this is rather unexpected.

I don't know if this is
    1) the SSD is done. It was one of the original corsair force ones.
    2) the motherboards SATA connections are done. They were never great and it was a cheap motherboard.
    3) the motherboard itself is just on the fritz.

Like I said i've occasionally had problems with it before and a restart usually 'fixes' it - aka it'll find the device - so i thought nothing of it but it really isn't doing anything now.

    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to the TenForums @bootingissues1

Not sure how you are resourced so .....

    1) Could be, do you have boot media that you can start to get to command prompt to run chkdsk on ssd
    2) If you have install media and even a small HDD can you install windows to show Sata ports okay
    3) If you can do 2) the motherboard is okay. If you can't do 2) can you download and create a Ubuntu install cd and then boot from that. Do not install it on your system, test drive Ubuntu. Again this will show MB is working or not.
