    Device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)


    This may be a simple question for one of you experts but certainly not simple for me and my old Dell Inspiron N5030 which I have just upgraded from Win7 to Windows 10 Home; Version 1607; Build 14.393693; 64-bit.

    Device manager shows: Display Adapters> Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) marked with a yellow exclamation point. There are NO Windows 10 drivers from Dell for this old laptop. Intel does not support this chipset series for Windows 10.

    Driver Properties - General tab - Device status; "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on the system."

    Can anyone please tell me how to discover what my choices might be for "one of the other devices on the system" that I can possibly disable? I haven't a clue! I do not know how to find any IRQ assignments in Windows 10, nor do I even know where to begin looking. The system does not crash and everything that I have checked seems to be working as it should be working.

    Very simple just go to device manager double click on the device then choose resources it gives you irq io and memory for each device

    Sounded simple, but, this item shows Resources tab and it says only the same thing and NO IRQ, etc. ...... "This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on the system." It did not repeat the "(Code 12)" part. Most all of the other items in my Device manager have no "Resources" tab.

    Do you still have your Windows Old folder? If so try updating the driver in device manager and point it to the old Windows inf folder including sub folders, that worked for me with an old IDE raid card, worth a shot?

    Surprise, surprise! There is no windows.old folder. This laptop had Win7 Home Premium installed. Approximately ONE week ago I upgraded to Windows 10 (but I opted to not save any files). I have only a Windows folder and a Windows Upgrade folder on my "C" drive. With no windows.old folder I'll bet there is no way to go back to Windows 7 but that it not a concern with this post.

    I did discover a new wrinkle . . . . . if I view " show hidden devices", there are actually two instances of Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) and both are marked with a yellow exclamation point. I actually uninstalled both instances but they are right back there after a reboot.

    Wow! Those are some old drivers. You can find relevant downloads at the Intel Download Center. The newest are of Vista vintage, so before you run the installer make sure to set compatiblity mode to Vista, after which you can try to see if they clear up those issues.     Thanks Ed. Yea, they are indeed old but restoring the Dell M5030's and N5030's are my hobby. (Keeps the old man thinking and keeps him busy) I will try the Intel site and set it to compatibily mode. I could not get rid of the yellow !'s. I tried the Intel version and the Windows 7 64-bit video driver that Dell recommends for this specific unit and I get the same "error' message that my laptop "does not meet the minimum requirements".

    In device manager, try to show all hiden devices and see if there is another interrupt device at first. If it interrupted, there will be another device had the same problem (yellow exclamation).
