Anything with a bootable OS in it that runs from an external drive is fine
I haven't tried the system you mention - but nothing wrong with that either (if it works !!!) -- I'm more used to Linux so using a Linux Live usb seemed the easiest to me.

However it still doesn't get away from the fact that ONE SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE BACKUPS.

HDD's are quite reliable these days but unfortunately they can and do go defective sometimes --rarer than you think but it DOES happen.
