I just went out and bought a Logitech Mouse, got out my soldering iron, and did a transplant. The switches were identical. The tricky part was getting it apart without breaking the case in the process. Now I have two more spare switches. I have that luxury though. The mouse was a lot cheaper than a new trackball.

I have the same problem and I have determined it is some new update to Windows 10 that addresses TOUCH SCREEN functionality relating to clicks, or 'taps' by fingers.
So, the natural act of tapping with a finger is to press and hold, just a short time, to activate the button, rather than a 'click' or rapid tap. The mouse functionality has somehow been altered to mimick this behavior, REQUIRING a long press of the left button to EMULATE a click. In some cases the regular mouse-click instant tap behavior is enough to do something, but often it takes a LONG CLICK (???) to make it happen.
There is a new (to me) option in the mouse settings called: Change Touch Feedback (under size and color of course)
Unchecking this seemed to make an improvement, as windows wasn't trying to sense my touching the screen and provide a visual feedback. But some options STILL require this LONG CLICK that just isn't natural for a mouse. When should I long click? When is it ok to NOT long click but just CLICK?
What it becomes is an unreasonable burden on the user to ALWAYS LONG CLICK every damn thing, because one will never know when a short click is enough or not, so you will have to click again and then remember to LONG CLICK because some things do not respond to a SHORT CLICK.
    IMO this is unbelievable.
I cannot believe that this is simply a mistake but is in fact an intentional "flaw" designed to set my teeth on edge, and upset everybody in general. It's a psychological ploy for marketing or something, who the **** knows. It doesn't matter.
It's wrong and it needs to be fixed. Where is the toggle to turn it off, please?
    Thank you.
    Please and thank you.
    toggle, setting, registry key, anything
    :smh:

[so, this is 'the last straw' that 'broke the camel's back' for me... i will have to move to linux permanently, because i KNOW this will not get fixed and nobody has an answer except 'update mouse driver' or something so lame... cmon]
