The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device ROOT\WPD\0000?

I am seeing several of these Warnings in the Event Viewer, Windows System logs. These are Event ID 219, Source Kernel-PnP.

That said, I am not experiencing any crashes, freezes, BSODs, and everything on my PC seems to be functional. So perhaps I can safely ignore these warnings, but I prefer to get to the bottom of something in case it will lead to problems in the future.

I have done some online research on this event, and none of the suggested fixes seem applicable to me. I have been vigilant in keeping all drivers on my machine up to date. I've checked, and there don't seem to be any newer drivers available for any of my hardware. I also have the Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework service set to "automatic" startup.

The details of this event are below.

Any suggested action to remedy my problem? Thanks!

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any devices with yellow flags? If so, these devices need drivers installed. Usually your video card driver.

Thanks for your reply and the info. Not sure why I didn't find that article myself.

Good info. I don't see any yellow flags in Device Manager. nVidia video card driver is definitely installed. Looking at the Event Log, it appears these warnings always occur at system startup. Per the article, "this event happens randomly at times due to latency issues associated at system boot up." Given all that, it seems this is nothing I need to worry about.

    Thanks again :)

Check out this MS answers exchange: it is focused on USB stuff (you didn't provide basic error message description text in your original posting, so I'm assuming it could be but isn't necessarily related). Does sound like a root hub discovery/drive loading error, though... The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device - Microsoft Community

That does sound like an issue. Did you try the method to Start Windows Driver Foundation? It worked for me:

1.Press Windows Key + R then type services.msc and hit Enter.

2.Find Windows Driver Foundation – User-mode Driver Framework service then right-click on it and select Properties.

3.Set it’s startup type to Automatic and make sure the service is running, if not then click on Start.

    4.Click Apply followed by OK.

5.Reboot your PC to save changes.

There are other ways too but I would suggest you to read more about them before deciding which one would be best for you.

I know this is an old thread. I've had this problem for years across all versions of Windows and never found a proper solution. It has become part of the personality of my Win7_64 PC and now others have posted similar for Win10. Even Microsoft replies don't seem to have solved it? I'm not a PC engineer but for posterity and all those who just put up with Event Error 219, here's my answer:
My PC runs with a flash stick permanently installed which I use for backup and recovery. I also have a couple of other USB devices permanently attached.

USB devices access the tools and libraries of WDF which normally runs as a background service. If you check under the Windows services.msc tab for Windows driver Foundation you will see its startup type. If it is set to Manual, USB devices cannot link their drivers at Boot because the service isn't running and Event error 219 is logged. Later on when windows starts, any USB devices already plugged in or added are successfully enumerated. This error is a nuisance, but doesn't stop USB devices working. Some say just ignore it.

An Automatic start up for Windows Driver Foundation prioritises the service to start during Boot. Then when Windows gets to enumerating USB devices plugged in, no error is given. But if you try changing the service start from manual to Automatic, you are either met with gray fields, or you appear to change the option and it reverts back to manual service start later on.

After Windows has booted and the WDF service is running you cannot change its startup mode. You may appear to, but it doesn't stick after a reboot. You have to first disable WDF from starting using MSCONFIG or Win10 command, reboot into services and WDF should be showing as disabled. You can now set Automatic Startup, reboot, check the change is still there and the Event log no longer shows this error.

I hope this helps other Windows users stop Event error 219.
