HID Compliant Touch Screen Driver & Windows 10

I have two identical HP notebooks that went through the Windows 8.1 'update' to Windows 10 though, at a month apart. Oh, how I wish I still had 8.1

One made the migration fine and on the other one, the Touch Screen quit working and hasn't worked since. Going to Device Manager, the driver is gone unless you click to see 'hidden' in which case, it's there albeit grayed out and unusable.

From what I've read on the Internet, this problem is almost chronic and lots of people have noted the same problem. Hopefully HP and Microsoft find a solution soon and if I'd known I'd lose something like this, would have stayed with Windows 8.1.

I've tried uninstalling the gray version, tried the HP assistant but didn't want to risk allowing some of the drivers to update, and a couple of other things I've seen on the net but so far, no luck. I also tried a 3rd party driver from a thread I'd seen on the Lenovo site but it turned out not to be for Windows 10 and wouldn't run properly, have tried updating the drivers individually and manually but so far, nada.

HELP - any ideas are greatly appreciated.

    TIA

What is the model# of your HP laptops? You should only install drivers from the HP Support/Download Drivers web site. HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP(R) Customer Support type in your make and model# choose your version of Windows 10 (ie) 32bit or 64 bit and download the drivers you need.

So far, haven't installed any drivers. To date, when searching for updates it comes back telling me the latest version is installed.
