Oculus Rift sensor not being recognized by Windows during boot

I bought an Oculus Rift pair of VR glasses a couple of weeks ago and have a problem where the Rift sensor that comes with the glasses isn't successfully recognized by Windows every now and then during boot.

I've been in contact with the Oculus support but they haven't been able to reproduce the issue.

Below is my original message from Oculus forums describing the issue in detail and figured I would ask about it in here as well if it maybe is more of a Windows issue.

Many thanks in advance for any tips or input!

Below is my post over at Oculus and you can find the complete thread over here.

"I bought the Oculus Rift the other day and although everything seems to be working fine I have an error shown in Windows Device Manager under the USB section.

The title of the device is Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub and it's shown with an exclamation mark. Clicking on this device the error message says:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)The request is not supported.

I did a search for the Device ID and found it's the Oculus Rift sensor. I also tried the update driver option having Windows search for it online but it just comes back saying the best driver is already installed.

Checking in the Oculus software under Settings->Devices it shows up as connected using USB 3 and the firmware version is 178/e9c7e04064ed1bd7a089.

I'm on Win Pro 1607 using an MSI Z170A Gaming M7 motherboard. As said things do seem to be OK as far as I can tell but still I don't like to have exclamation marks shown in Device Manager and I don't like to have a message every time I start Windows saying I have a USB device not working OK.

Thanks in advance for any input how to correct this."

I have exactly the same issue.
Everything seems to work ok but there's obviously an issue in Windows.
    Anyone care to comment?

After talking to Oculus support and sending them all kinds of logs they still were never able to find the culprit nor replicating the issue.

Instead they suggested the problem might be faulty hardware somewhere in my computer so maybe that's what you're having too as well as all others with this same issue ;-)

Ah yes, the "blame the other guy syndrome".
If only everyone who bought a rift read this and returned it for a full refund (Amazon is 30 days) then we might find that Oculus have a change of heart and spend the resources to fix it.

    Very true.

I actually returned mine. Not mainly because of this issue but more about the low resolution that didn't work out in my case but this issue certainly added to my decision to return it.

The resolution is not quite there. I completely agree.
I play mainly SIM racing and the immersion is simply astonishing. I can't go back to 2D monitors, albeit very high end ones with gorgeous images. The intuitive feel of actually being inside a racecar has kindled an entire new passion for my hobby. So, I'm willing to sacrifice the somewhat mediocre (at best) graphics for that immersion. Within a couple of years we will see vast improvement to resolution, so I'll consider my purchase a necessary part of supporting an amazing ecosystem in computer experience.
But I'm really considering boxing the Oculus up and changing it for the Vive. Primary reason is they have a telephone number for tech support.
That's a deal breaker for me. Facebook is beyond wealthy and this decision to not provide customers with a comprehensive level of technical support is unacceptable. Support tickets that take days to be answered for a $600 piece of equipment? No. Just no.

I share everthing you say 100%, both the amazing immersion but also what you say about Oculus and their owners...

In my case when I still had the VR headset I felt I was actually sitting inside the cockpit of a Boeing 737-800, nothing short of amazing!! However with all instruments and screens where some of what you need to see was very blurry due to the low resolution it just didn't work out. But...I do miss the immersion a lot and now being back to a 2D screen although a very nice one (48" 4K) it just isn't that fun anymore that it used to be before I learned what it can be like...in VR...

Can't wait for the technique to advance and in my dreams we'll be able to buy a VR headset in a couple of years which won't be much heavier/bulkier than a pair of sunglasses, it will be wireless and the resolution will be 4K or better with an increased FOV taking away some of that "I'm a diver feeling"...
