Thanks a lot for your continued assistance axe0. Before I go ahead and do DISM repair procedure as you suggest above, I just want to double-check something please. When I ran chkdsk, it was yesterday on the 13th of Dec. The most up to date datestamp found in the uploaded chkdisk log file is on the 11th, two days prior to this. I wonder if this is correct, and that the writing/updating to this log file is not always occurring?

Regarding either the install.wim or install.esd files, please can you tell me if either of them are located on a W10 OEM home edition DVD? The reason I ask is that if one (or perhaps both) file are on there, then I will go and look for it, and then plug in a DVD drive in to my PC. This will save me a presumably large download, as I am using a fairly slow internet connection. Thanks a lot!

I hold off to answering that for a few days, I'm a bit ill and can't focus long enough to answer.

You should be able to check it, the files are located in the 'sources' folder.

I didn't see it mentioned, but I would backup your data from the drive as soon as you can, just in case. Some times, if a drive is failing, the diagnostics can push it over the edge due to the stress.

    axe0, I wish you a speedy recovery!

DeaconFrost, I am currently using Macrium Reflect to make daily images of the drive. Unfortunately, I now can't run an image back up operation without needing to disable MR's error checking. If I try to make an image without disabling its error checking, MR aborts the image back up operation with a CRC error. This makes me think that my MR backups will contain potentially 'mangled' Windows files. However, I'm also backing up other files seperately, using a simple copy-and-paste operation from the drive, to a back up USB drive.

BTW, when I ran MR today, it complained about another type of error, and told me to run chkdsk c: /r. I did that, then checked the checkdisk log file, and it now contains some up to date data. I have included this log file as an attachment.

As soon as I find my W10 OEM DVD, I'll see if it contains either of those source files required to do a DISM repair.

I would be grateful for some probably simple trouble-shooting assistance please. I ran DISM, but it failed - it said that it couldn't find the source files.

Error - cannot locate the source files

Hmm this is a little bit odd. I followed the instructions on that webpage for the Image Health tool:

The Preferred Method Of Use To Fix file Corruption Would Be To Select

    Option 1 - /ScanHealth > if shows as Repairable,
    then
Option 2 - /RestoreHealth > if shows as Missing Source Files,
    then
    Option 3 - /RestoreHealth /source

I selected option 1 (it reported "repairable"), then 2 (it reported "missing source files"), and then 3. During the running of option 3, Dism told me that it couldn't locate the source files. I seem to have the ISO mounted OK.

I'm not sure if this is important, but the instructions for the Image Health tool says -

    Step 2: Right-Click IMAGE_HEALTH.CMD > Select Properties > Select Unblock

When I right clicked on this .cmd file, I couldn't see an option/property that said "Unblock". Also, there is a note on that webpage saying -

    Note:
Dism uses the component store as it's main source for Image Repair, so best to Select Option 2
Before Selecting Option 3 and redirecting the repair source, to the Windows Setup Media..

When running option 3, I was not asked to redirect the Image Health tool to the location of my mounted ISO drive containing the source files.

When I right clicked on this .cmd file, I couldn't see an option/property that said "Unblock".
Select 'properties', then you see an option 'unblock'.

When running option 3, I was not asked to redirect the Image Health tool to the location of my mounted ISO drive containing the source files.
It does so automatically (last time I used it) so it can't go wrong.

Sorry, but I can't see an "Unblock" option when I right click on the .cmd file, then select Properties -

Also, when I run Image Health, I see this -
