Web cams coming on by themselves

Quite a long time ago I saw mention in here of web cams 'watching you'. A few days ago, I noticed the web cam light was on. So I switched the cam off and thought no more of it. 2 days ago, the same. So this time I checked it out and found several apps had 'permission' to use the web cam including Microsoft Edge, 5-6 others, and Skype. Well, Skype yes, thats my authorisation as I speak to my grand kids regularly. But Edge? Anyway, I disabled all but Skype.

On my desktop I only connect my camera when I need it.

A small piece of masking tape or one of those "dot" band-aids will block the lens, especially on Notebooks. I also keep the webcam unplugged from my Desktops until needed.

Just cover it over or point it towards the ceiling. I have a small plastic clip over the inbuilt laptop camera, and the separate web cam is either unplugged or pointing towards the wall here

in Skype, go to options/Video settings and change "Automatically receive video and share screens with" to no one.. this will make it ask you before your cam will turn on or share screens.. this solved this exact issue i had awhile back.. other than that.. i would check to see if your microphone default is set to the webcam.. that will turn it on as well.
