Empty HDD showing 4GB used !!!!! (Build 1607)

    Hi there

Build 1607 (with latest updates) throwing up all sorts of rubbish in File explorer.

Empty (newly re-formatted) HDD -- showing 4GB used even though it's EMPTY - no hidden files etc.

    No Recycle Bin files etc.

Linux shows HDD correctly a few MB for the system info - the HDD is the 232 GB drive shown in the list

    Any ideas.

If File explorer is unreliable then that's going to be a HIDEOUS problem.

    Cheers

What does Disk Management or another partition manager say?

Been a while since I had an empty drive, but you do realize, I hope that drives are never empty once formatted. Partitioning and setup information takes space, which depends a lot on the number of partitions etc. It seems you have only one here but since you are running win10 as well as ubuntu then I'm not sure what the overhead will be. It seems a bit high for windows alone, so I assume ubuntu is adding some usage space. Try some googling on both win and ubuntu setup space and it might resolve your question. Cheers.

Just to follow up on this as I just installed a new 4 TB drive and formatted under GPT. The results were 472 MB used and 3.63 TB free. So the 472 MB is formatting information. Still not sure why you had 4 GB used but as I said before might be because you were running alternative systems in Win 10/ Ubuntu. Cheers
