External USB HDD - Many Event Errors - Is my Data in Danger ?

    Hi,
    Sorry for poor English

While doing a System Backup, I am getting a lot of errors in Event Viewer. The Backup itself is saying it finished Sucessfully.
Because the messages are Scaring and I already lost 1TB of Data on other External Drive also while doing System Backup, I think it is time to go back to Previous OS, and I am asking you advise if indeed would be the best for me, because of the following errors:

The Drive has 131GB free Space, and is 2 Month Old. My Laptop is 2 Old and the HDD is less than 2 years.

Event ID 35 - Volsnap - The shadow copies of volume J: were aborted because the shadow copy storage failed to grow.

Event ID 24 - Volsnap - There was insufficient disk space on volume J: to grow the shadow copy storage for shadow copies of J:. As a result of this failure all shadow copies of volume J: are at risk of being deleted.

Event ID 153 - Disk - The IO operation at logical block address 0x5bf798 for Disk 1 (PDO name: \Device\00000067) was retried.

Event ID 11 -Disk - The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR2.

EDIT : - Deleted ; Related to Sata Drives Install

    I have W10-1607.187 installed. I just did a In-Place Upgrade

Hello, I suggest a couple of checks on the disk.

    1. Download and run Crystal Diskinfo (free) and check its SMART parameters. You will get an immediate Red/yellow/green indication.
    2. Download and run Macrorit Diskcanner (free)
This will do a surface check.

The results should help you determine what to do with the drive.

I note you are doing a system backup- it's excellent that you are thinking to do this. I'm guessing you are using Windows Backup and Restore.

A number of people here have found this somewhat unreliable, and we prefer e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) for disk imaging. It (and some other such programs)
    - is more reliable
    - more flexible
    - much better supported
    - more feature rich.

I think you would be happier with that than Backup and Restore. Hope that helps.

    Hi dalchina,
    Thank you.
The thing is that Drive J: (External Drive where I am Storing the Backup) has , after Backup ended, still 131GB Free space. It says there is "no space". There is something wrong.
There is nothing wrong with Hardware, I am quite sure of that. I will not lose time with Testing Surface, it take many Hours.
About the other Backup Solutions, in my opinion, if there is a System Related Bug, the other Software will not be able to do it better.
But my main concern is about the Data Loss, it is said "may Delete all Copies"!.
I lost 1TB , almost at the end of Backup was popping up an error, immediately the Drive turned RAW and I tried to Fix it, Windows took the 2nd Partition Table and my Data was Lost.
I can not afford to lose Data, I use PC for to Work, not for to watch Videos or all that entertainment things around..

Losing partitions on a Win 10 upgrade, and apparently RAW format is a relatively widely reported phenomenon, alas. You can 'read all abart it' on the web and in threads here.

I didn't find that surface scan took very long. Try it- if it's too long for you you have two choices:
    a. abandon it
    b. leave it running overnight.

Faced with an uncertain situation with a backup drive, I'd do everything I reasonably could to ensure it was sound, and if there seemed something wrong about parameters, I would arrange to format it and start again.

In the mean time I did several System Image , just for testing, and every time the same 35 and 24 errors. So there is something wrong.
Also I have tried to use a external Burner to record a DVD-RAM as USB and as DVD using Windows built-in recording but there was errors , drive was even doing a lot of noise and could not finish both burning. Using other burning software it worked fine.
So I decided to go back to 1511, I have a bad feeling about AU and External Drives.
