There used to be this thing called bluetooth (you still get it in cheap rental cars sometimes) where you type in billions of numbers and then you can (not very well) play your music. Or some of it.

Ask a kid - they can figure it out that sort of thing better than me on the whole.

    Hi there

Bluetooth is a HORRIBLE technology for quality sound - most decent cars anyway have a convenient AUX in for playing music from external devices - the better type cars have the aux in plus a USB slot in a panel so you can place the device out of the drivers way without any wires getting in the way --or old fashioned car radios have AUX in --very few have Bluetooth.

In the home Wifi speakers are infinitely better than Bluetooth if you want wireless sound -- bluetooth is hopeless for any really high quality listening.

Bluetooth can work for "Soundbars" on modern TV sets - the sound quality of modern movies is actually pretty dreadful and often poorly mixed - especially for spoken words. However a lot of movies these days have barely any Dialog --I think Matt Damon in the latest Jason Bourne movie actually has around 120 secs or so -- 2 Mins !!!! in the whole film !! -the rest is a lot of effects -- banging and crashing etc -- enjoyable movie but don't expect any Brain Cells to be needed when watching it. !!!

Put these soundbars into a high quality Audiophile high end Audio Amp and you can hear the obvious limitations !!!!

Apple may have just got this wrong for once -- but in any case I think there is an adapter available to connect "Classic headphones" to the system.

    Cheers

If you mean dropping the 3,5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7 then yes I agree, it does seem a shame...

    Use android !!

Apple were heading South on a technical level, before Jobs died, they are still sliding and unless they can find another salesman at Jobs's level, (not likely, the guy was special in that field), they may find their markets turning elsewhere.

Every release over the time without Jobs has either headlined an "exclusive" Feature, that has been standard on Android, (and often even Windows Phones) for some time. I laughed at Apples "Exclusive" Noise cancelling system announcement when I was using it on an old Sony android phone to watch the Apple launch.

Most announcements are their sales ploys like the latest on the iPhony 7,

If you go to a bespoke proprietary connection system you can either exclusively sell this at inflated prices or Apples normal way of licensing the "technology" to others, Why do you think that Apple Headphones have a different Pin-out to the normal units, ( income without output, just like buying up other patents for the same reason).

Some have suggested that the White colour of most iPhones is to appeal to the sheep that buy anything Apple

    Anyway ...

Later Bluetooth 3 & 4 for car use now has Multi device support, When in the car, My phone is connected as standard to Three other devices - Head Unit, (for display of track information and remote control of the HU, and HQ streaming of Music from the phone to the HU ), Sat Nav, (for live Traffic and "Safety Camera" information), and of course to my watch. I have at times also connected the same phone to a Bluetooth ODBII device for monitoring, (Test runs of vehicle performance and exactly when fault codes are generated), but find that this needs it's own device due to the potential Data overload

Hee hee. I do. It is still a bit sad though Apple seem intent on scuppering themselves. I don't care particularly but it is a shame anyway.

On my bike I connect using Bluetooth to my GPS and Sena intercom. It works extremely well. The sound quality is pitiful but then all on a bike sound quality is always pitiful (it is so noisy anyway) and I don't think Bluetooth is the limiting factor. I can make a call if I slow down and shout and can just about hear my music over the wind noise if I turn it up really loud.

I may be going slightly OT here (considering the question was regarding SCART leads) but there we are. The OP started this transgression :)

    Hi there
    @Barman58

VPN --fine so link is OK so link works.

I think I paid more taxes in the UK last month than Google / Apple did combined I think !!! and I'm sure I'm not alone in that one.

I got round the SCART problem -- changing the HDMI cable and splitter - now got the Capture device to work at full 1080p.

Next problem though -- need to convert m2ts to mkv or mp4 so PLEX will play it. That's easily do-able though. Playback is full 1080p -- streets ahead of the 576p from the DVD recorder especially on a decent TV.

    Anyway set up is now

SKYQ minibox--->HDMI splitter (iSolem - but get the one WITHOUT the iSolem label on it- this one strips off DRM)--->HDMI OUT--->HDMI in on the-StarTech capture device--->-USB on computer --you have to use a POWERED USB slot or it won't work.

Software for capturing --came with the device Vivastation.

Works brilliantly -- no more scart or DVD recorder now needed !!!!!! Capture window also can go to full screen so no extra output HDMI to monitor needed when viewing in real time.

    Problem solved.

(Note SKY Q Miniboxes output at 1080p - change resolution in settings as the default is 1080i. SKY does now transmit at native 1080p for the SKY Q system and also at 4K (UHD) for some events --football etc. You can currently only get 4K UHD on the main SKY Q silver box though).
