How do I get NUM LOCK OFF recognized for numbers to print? Characters will not register.

Dear DDT1932:
if the keyboard won't respond to the NUM LOCK key (it's supposed to toggle on/off whenever it's pressed) there could be a problem with your keyboard. If you have access to another keyboard, try it and see what happens. If not, maybe you could borrow one from a friend just to try it out? My best guess based on your system type (HP desktop) and it's likely age is that the NUM LOCK key may be broken or jammed. Replacing a keyboard is not terribly expensive, so things could be worse!
