    Missing mouse driver?

    System:
8 yr old desktop w/ i5-7600K (still running smooth)
    Windows 10 Home Ed.

I use a wireless Logitech mouse, and I recently tried to swap it for a new Logitech. I plugged in the second unifying receiver while the first one was still plugged in (maybe not ideal but I wasn't thinking), and I lost all mouse function. I tried every configuration of old and new mouse and receiver, as well as an HP mouse, but none worked. Running through Logitech Unifying software, both mice were detected ok, but still no function. I couldn't find anything on Logitech's website that looked like a driver I could download.

In Device Manager, I didn't find a Mouse/Pointer section, but I did find a Logitech USB Device and other items that might have possibly been generic mouse drivers under Human Interface Devices. I tried updating all of them then later uninstalling all of them and rebooting. I later tried the usual tricks in Command Prompt (SFC scannow, DISM checkhealth & scanhealth & restorehealth) to no avail. I've also tried swapping batteries, toggling mouse power, using different USB slots, reinstalling Logitech utility, disabling Realtek HD Audio, retrying solutions in Safe Mode, updating Windows 10, using a restore point (I was a dummy and didn't have one before issues, so only went back to the start of troubleshooting attempts), banging my head against the wall, and threatening my PC. I'm out of ideas.

Can anyone think of anything else I can try before doing a fresh install of Windows?

Hi, grab a simple wired mouse that you know works and plug it in. See if it's recognised. Maybe one of those you've tried was that.. unclear.

I assume your USB ports are working normally. Post a screenshot of your Device Manager- any yellow triangles (missing drivers?)

On the one hand you say you've no working mouse, but it seems you've been able to use your PC- keyboard only?

If you can, try creating a new user for test purposes. Log in as that user. Is a mouse recognised?

If not, and assuming your disk and file system are ok (check) then you can proceed to an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data
    Tutorial/iso files freely available.

-or- if you use 3rd party disk imaging regularly and routinely as is so often advised here, and have an appropriate image, you could restore that.

What Logitech mice do you have? The Logitech software that you need might be different for different mice.

For example, currently the Logi Bolt app is used to add/remove my mice. Different programs are used to configure the mice.
My oldest mice the M325 use SetPoint to configure them
My newest mice the M510 use Options+ to configure them. Note Options+ replaced Options recently.

    To troubleshoot wireless mice problems:
For my desktop computers I use a wired USB mouse.
For my laptops computers I use either a wired USB mouse or the touchpad

Note you don't have to worry about Unifying software. Some version is apparently included with Windows. If you install Bolt, Options, or Options+ it probably updates the Unifying software if needed.

    dalchina,
See attached for a picture of my Device Manager. No yellow triangles, but even if there were, I tried updating and disabling every item under Human Interface Devices. My USB ports are working fine - USB keyboard, mice receivers (confirmed via Logitech Unifying Software), and external HD all register. I don't have a wired mouse, but I have a PS/2 type on order. I ran out of time yesterday, but I'll try the new user idea tonight.

    pepanee,
I tried most of the solutions in those videos with no result, but I haven't yet tried disabling Fast Startup or running Driver Easy. I'll report on that tonight.

    MisterEd,
I have M705 and M510. I haven't tried Bolt or Options+, but I'll get them tonight. Those mice have always been plug and play for me in the past, so I'm not too hopeful this will help.

Install Logi Bolt app and Logi Options+. Use Logi Bolt app to add your mice and Logi Options+ to configure them.

According to the Opitions+ release notes it supports both of your mice.

Does Reliability History have entries and if so.the ---view tech details ---might provide useful information.
Also,in the Search box type in ---dxdiag --- and check and expand the Input page for Mouse information.

I got my PS/2 wired mouse today, and I tried all the remaining solutions proposed so far, aside from joeandmarg0's suggestions (will try tomorrow). No dice. However, I did find that while in BIOS, my USB mouse (M510) worked fine, whereas the PS/2 mouse did not (couldn't even enter BIOS or finish booting while PS/2 was connected). I have an ASUS board with EZ BIOS. That's the only place the mouse works.

There is a big difference in the Device Manager when the Logitech Unifying Receiver. When the receiver is plugged in you will references to Logitech and mice but don't expect to see the specific mouse identified. Here is my other laptop with and without the Logitech Unifying Receiver. Note it is not enough to turn off the mouse to see the change. You must unplug the receiver.

Did you install Bolt? Don't forget that after you select to add the mouse and Bolt starts scanning you must turn off the mouse and then turn it back on for Bolt to detect it.

BTW, Logitech Unifying Receivers can fail. I just replaced one 5 months ago.
