Someone mentioned Samsung does not recommend their "maximum performance " mode which i'm curious about because i would think the overwhelming majority use that mode.
Hypothetically shorter life. You should make up your own mind - do you want it to last 12 years or 11.5 years? (That's meant as sarcasm) Directionally, maximum performance should give better performance and serve more bells and whistles in WIndows, whereas Max Reliability gives longer life and more stable performance (HYPOTHETICALLY), and Max Capacity gives you more .... can you guess? What you can do is read how the OS parameters are set in each case and choose that way or, finally (as OldMike suggests earlier in the thread), go to the advanced tab, choose options that make sense to serve your needs and implement your own "custom" settings.

Yeah, the lifespan thing is a non issue nowadays unless you really do plan on keeping it for a very long time .

@Snakeyes and @Cliff S saw your benchmarks with rapid, impressive!

Using 850 Pro as you and wondered how much RAM do you have on board it should be related to the score right? Mine is 8GB and used CrystalDiskMark as a more reliable software to test results.

Why is performance optimization not available in SM 4.8? Anyone else?

I have 16GB RAM but that doesn't make much difference over 4GB, I let Windows initially set my system up for SSD and my 2nd internal HDD(run winsat formal in command prompt and rebooted).

In answer to your second question, Windows 8 and 10 doesn't need it as that is in Disk Optimization if you want to manually trigger trim, but both OS versions along with the SSD firmware do a good job at "Garbage Collection" and "Trim".

Got it, thanks for the info!

Looks like CDiskMark gives overall much higher benchmarks scores than SM , probably SM doesn't push the SSD to its limit and results are quite inconsistent at least for me. Not that it matters that much but it's good to mention.

I agree Magician is not the best benchmark tester , inconsistent for me as well . Most avoid using "rapid" for benchmark testing , non "rapid" benchmark testing is a better indicator , at least thats what most people on the forums say about it.

When I bought my 512 GB 850 PRO it updated the firmware to EXM02B6Q. I would guess that is what you have?

The way I got my EVO F/W update was just by starting up SM one morning and there was a little grey notification icon next to Firmware Update. When I selected that tab, an option to update the F/W was presented, which I exercised.
