...But my question is, do I need to have Magician running for RAPID and OS optimization to keep working?
    Nope.

    Ok, good. Thanks.

So... what exactly does RAPID do?

Not much in real world use, unless you have significant queue depth operational requirements. It's not worth much at all to me.

What happens when I use magician to optimize an OS and apply RAPID on a computer that doesn't have a Samsung ssd but does still have an ssd?

No idea - maybe it works, depending on how you define works, not sure how dependent the Magician OS tweaks are on having the Samsung SSD per se - not sure if it could do any harm or not. If you're feeling frisky, try it and let us know.

The rapid will not work. The optimize might, but all that does is make adjustments to power settings etc. it's better to do it directly without using magician, since you would not be sure about the appropriate changes being made.

Well, it looks like I actually have a separate SSD other than my primary drive, which is also an SSD. It's a samsung 8GB SSD for some reason don't know why it's so small. Either way, the magician didn't initially let me do anything to either drive, even though the 8GB is a samsung (it said SAMSUN but i'm pretty sure it's a samsung since I never heard of SAMSUN...). My primary drive is a WD.

BUT, with the help of windows enabler 1.1, I was able to click on the greyed out options and set up OS optimization and I even enabled RAPID mode.

I did a benchmark test before and after and the performance has in fact been boosted! It's nothing near what the samsung 850 evo gives me on my desktop PC. Before I was getting like 111 MB/s read and after I was getting about 146 MB/s. Now, I don't know if this harmed the drive in any way, but I imagine it's not going to do any harm if it's an SSD drive just not samsung brand. I don't know if RAPID mode is on or not since it doesn't say it's enabled, but it did prompt me to restart the computer to enable RAPID so it might be on, who knows.

The OS optimization did work because I now have samsung's high performance power option enabled. However, I did get a couple error messages that it failed to turn on "write cache buffer" and "write cache buffer flushing."

However, my SSD performance has been improved since the benchmark test has proved this so maybe they did turn on.

Anyways, let me know if any of you try magician on a non-samsung drive. Be sure to use windows enabler 1.1 to utilize all the features that are greyed out. You can get it here: Windows Enabler v1.1 - Download

I would do my best to find the optimization software that came with whatever SSD you have instead of using Samsung Magician on an SSD who you don't know the manufacturer of , just my opinion of course.

You shouldn't have to download "Windows Enabler" for "Rapid" mode to work either , Samsung said the updated Magician will be out by the 12th (today) , we will see .

They first claimed late Sep at the latest then changed it to Oct 5th , they then said Oct 12th will be the release date .

My wd SSD didn't come with any optimization software. This is a dell xps 15. It came with the SSD. I didn't upgrade from an HDD.
