Anyone else with the 500GB 980 SSD NVMe having issues with the latest release of Magician? I'm not too fond of the new chat support features, although the rest of the UI looks gorgeous so I'd like to update, but sadly more than half the tabs say my device is unsupported. I had to rollback to 6.3.0.300 to be able to use the Over-Provisioning and Performance-Optimization features.
You need to install the NVMe drivers for full compatibility with Magician.
Anyway, I don't have a 980 NVMe drive, but I do have a couple of 970 NVMe drives and all works here. I don't use Over-Provisioning, but the option is there.
I haven't been able to find one for the standard 980 NVMe so I've just been using the native Windows driver. I heard that one could install the 970 driver for the 980 but I decided to just wait until Samsung released one. I know the 980 Pro has a driver that Samsung released, but I'm just not sure if it'd be compatible. When using V6.3 it says my firmware is up to date and it's recognized as NVMe using PCIe gen. 3 x 4. I'm using a B450 chipset and sadly I flashed my BIOS without realizing AMD had made vendors remove gen. 4 capability for the B450 chipset in later BIOS versions, but shouldn't Magician still work with gen. 3?
Current Samsung nvme driver 3.3 does not support the 980, only the 980 Pro. I am guessing 3.3 is the end-of-the line of Samsung supplied nvme drivers.
Yeah, I just looked at the NVMe driver section and see the 980 isn't supported. I also looked at the 980 downloads section and see no drivers there so scratch my suggestion.
That said, I'd assume the Magician Software should still function without the drive seeing Magician is supported.
The latest Magician software version is 7.0.0.510 and can be downloaded here - 980 SSD | Consumer SSD | Samsung Semiconductor
I've got five 870 EVOs running, and all of my try-outs of Magician persuaded me that I really don't need it at all.
