Just got a Lenovo X1 Carbon Extreme with 2 (1.0 TB & 500 GB) Samsung NVMe drives. Alas, they're not supported in Magician:
    Attachment 230099
It's identified as a PM981 NVMe PCIe M.2 1 TB drive. Runs really fast, but doesn't work with Magician. I'm guessing it's because this is strictly (or mostly) an OEM part. Anybody know more than that?
    Thanks!

Same boogie-Boo I have with my 961. OEM. Would suspect your 981 may not show S.M.A.R.T.

Thanks for the tip about the driver, @Cliff S. I'll check that out as soon as my current CrystalDiskMark benchmark (the one with "better performance" selected) completes. I'm going to do a compare/contrast piece with a USB 3-attached M.2 SATA (Samsung E850) 512 GB device attached. Hope it's noticeable!
    Thanks again,

PS added 3 mins later: As I suspected, makes a pretty big difference especially on the write side of things. Quick Removal is to the left, and Better Performance is to the right.

@f14tomcat: does the Samsung NVMe 3.1 driver work with your 961? I'm a little nervous about installing it on my Lenovo, because it's not mentioned in the driver device compatibility list (which includes only non-OEM items). But I suspect that under the hood it has more in common with the 950/960 models than we know about. What say you?
    Thanks,

I use the Intel "RAID0" RST driver. Software RAID. I've had nothing but problems if I do otherwise. Only have Magician on my 850, where I keep a couple of 10 OS's.

OK, then. I'm going to make a complete Macrium backup and create a rescue disk before trying anything weird. Cliff S says these drivers work with my generation of OEM parts. I guess I'll be finding out. Wish me luck!

PS to @CountMike: Here's a snip from DevMgr for the storage stuff that's currently installed:

Samsung NVMe drivers work perfectly with my Samsung OEM NVMe SSDs. Performance is nearly identical to that from the generic MS-supplied driver, too. Quick removal (1), Generic driver Better performance (2), and Samsung Driver Better performance (3):

    Interesting stuff!
