Samsung Magician

Your issue isn't typical of a firmware update. That said, I've no idea what went wrong. And for the record, Samsung Magician will only update compatible Samsung drives. If a drive doesn't need a firmware update, no update is performed.

Additionally this isn't an "automatic" update so you'd have to tell Magician to update. With that said, you should only update one drive at a time. In fact I'm pretty sure Magician only allows one drive at a time.

Anyway as said earlier, I've no idea what happened, and thus no suggestions.

I have a ASUS G74SX notebook which was running Samsung Magician 4.9.7 with Rapid Mode on with 2 x 2TB 850Pro's that I updated to Samsung Magician 5.1.0, I am not sure what the exact chipset is as I know that Intel Rapid Storage Technology no longer supports the chipset after 12.x and I already have the latest RST drivers 12.9.4.1000. Samsung Magician 5.1.0 seems to tell me I need to update the drivers as seen in the screenshots attached but there are no newer drivers available, does anyone know what would happen if I tried to manually turn Rapid Mode on or is there another way to get Rapid Mode working? Thanks in advance!

Update - I got Rapid Mode working simply by turning it on manually which resulted in a reboot but what functions are they talking about that cannot be run?

The software is asking you to update the Intel IRST drivers - Downloads for Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST). The latest version is 15, you're still running 12. See if updating helps.

    Let us know.

    Hi,
    @Almighty1 :

What do you use this RST driver for ? Just a replacement for MS AHCI driver or do you have BIOS RAID enable on a pair of Samsung SSDs ?
@sygnus21 : The chipset is no longer supported by RST beyond RST version 12.xxx.

    Cheers,

Well if that's the case, that's probably what Magician is complaining about.

And I don't set my BIOS to RAID, but AHCI, thus the IRST drivers. That's me.

@Almighty1, if all seems to be running well (and it looks like it is), I wouldn't worry about the driver update, especially if your board doesn't support it. That said, nothing beats a failure but a try.

    Good luck.

    Hi,

On one of my machines BIOS is set to RAID because I'm actually using a RAID 0 config.

AFAIK Magician's RAPID mode does not support RAID but OTOH you can still use Intel's RST driver instead of MS's AHCI driver with no problems at all.

    Cheers,

No idea what the RST driver is used for except I know that's how the laptop shipped with Win7 Home Premium x64 before I upgraded to Windows 10 x64 Home and I think it's supposed to give maximum performance to single SATA drives.

Yes, maybe it just does a version number check for the HD Controller drivers to see if it's up to date or not but I wonder what functions in Magician am I supposed to have missing. The Rapid Mode works fine in both 4.9.7 and 5.1.0, I have not tried 5.0.x yet except I know in 4.9.7, it never complained. I never SSD drives until after Windows 10 RTM because of Cliff so the system originally was Windows 7 x64 Home Premium. Is there any advantages of Intel RST over Windows built in drivers since I remember originally, they said Intel abandoned support for Windows 10 with Intel RST since Microsoft already supposedly had AHCI and RAID built in.

    Hello,

    No, it's not strange!

    Reminder on space management

... for system files it is windows that manages ...

To reduce the space it is necessary to remove:

The hiberfil.sys file >>>> cmd admin >>>> powercfg -h off

The System Protection File: Remove Restore Points

    The paging file

Once done, you can reduce the space

Then, you can restore the system protection and the paging file

The Hiberfil.sys file is rebuilt on its own
