By the way @Geosammy, if you don't want it running in the background or at boot time, you can turn that off too, by right clicking the magician icon in the system tray, an unselecting "Run at startup". That's what I do.

To update the firmware without Magician is a PITA, as you need to create a boot disk to do it.

I have the program installed, but I've disabled it form starting.
However, the Samsung RAPID Mode Service is set to run automatically.
Do I need to have this software running, in order to get the latest firmware updates?
I thought updating firmware could be done via Windows Device Manager?

    Hi,

can you please tell me whether the two entries with the FALSE result are ok, or not?
That would be updating the driver software. Firmware is hardware that comes with the drive itself, the SSD controller for example.
Some SSDs can be FW updated from within Windows but apparently not Samsung ones.

You need to have it running for a firmware update, yes.

But I just check once a month or so, by clicking the icon in start menu, leave it running for a little while, then exit it.

I am running on a notebook with SSDs so I would trust others who are more knowledgeable in it using it on desktops...

    Hi,

Reading the marketing page on the website it remonds me of Condusive technology caching software that I know to work well.
The optimizing services part is something that one can actually do oneself so I wouldn't spend any money on that.
Another alternative is VeloSSD which seem to be back as well.

    Cheers,

Interesting, VeloSSD seems to be using the SSD's as a cache for the spindle HDD's and not actually to make the SSD's faster. SSD Fresh sounds more like making the SSD drives themselves perform at their best by basically turn off unneeded services in windows which I am sure one can do manually except they probably do it faster than a person can. I remember back in the Windows 95/98 days, there were even software that replaces the virtual memory driver so it performs better than Microsoft's version and then ofcourse there is O&O CleaverCache which I am not sure if it really works or not.
