Installed this version then reverted back to 8295 with a clean install and now sound isn't working, there were never any problems when I reverted back to an older version before.

8356 wasn't working, no sound, so reverted back to 8295 and the sound still wasn't working.

Wasn't able to get a working install out of this cab file for the 8356 version, no matter what contortions I tried for my Asrock Extreme7+ setup. Found a clue over at nasaneforums.com when another user reported the same thing, and a VIP user there replied as follows:
Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version-8356-fail.jpg
He was somehow able to determine that this update only applies to Asus mobos, and observed (quite correctly, upon reflection and inspection of earlier CAB files on my own hard disk) that the AMD64 version of the RealTek drivers usually runs about 134MB in size, NOT the 82MB found in the uninstallable CAB file (at least, on my Asrock rigs).
I think we're going to need to wait for another/bigger CAB file to show up for it to do most of us any good, including yours truly.

    Hi,

That's true but applying massive amounts of local and global negative feedback usually wipe most differences under the carpet though.

    Cheers,
LOL, until some third party that are audiophiles writes drivers for it.

    Hi,

Why weird ? You're running a Asus board for which these drivers were written.

but this full 8356 driver package is digitally signed by Realtek, not by Microsoft (I checked the digital signature CAT files inside and they're signed by Realtek, not by MS). therefore this is technically a non-WHQL driver package and I will not use that one on any of my machines with Realtek audio devices.

the 8356 driver packs coming from MS Update Catalog, on the other hand, are Microsoft approved WHQL versions.

In the past I've learned the hard way to never update to anything that's not WHQL.
