So, my 2 cents: Keeping 8544, everything sounds well-balanced...
at least on my speakers and with my setup/configuration.
I'm not convinced that build 8544 sound the best on my system. I'll give them another day but will probably go back to 8541.

So, I have a ASUS Z370 ROG Maximus X Hero mobo. They just updated their audio drivers. This is what is says on their website:

    Version 6.0.1.8507
    2018/09/28153.4 MBytes
    8507_UAD_WHQL_2018_0815_NAHIMIC.zip

ROG MAXIMUS X HERO Driver & Tools | Motherboards | ASUS Global

So, am I correct in assuming that I could download 8541 or 8544 (with Nahimic?) for that mobo, if I wanted? Can someone explain to me like I'm a 5 year old, why I would ever download from ASUS directly, when there are newer versions of audio drivers around?

I always thought that Nahimic is being exclusively used by MSI? Since when does ASUS support it or am I simply wrong in my assumption? Should/Can I actually use Nahimic?

It's not the sound driver that ASUS updated, just the NAHIMIC parts.
Read this post I made yesterday in the Maximus X owners thread: Asus Z370 Maximus X Motherboards - Page 38 - Windows 10 Forums

So, I updated it and here is what I got:

I previously had 8536 and now I am on 8507 Realtek Audio Driver.

So it indeed does more than just update "UI and stuff". There is literally no difference to UI etc. UI updated with 8536 for me and now I have the exact same Ui with an older driver. lol

    Maybe I'm just stupid though.

8475 is louder and punchier than 8541.

That said, I left 8541 on since it has decent tonality, seems more emphasized in the mid-range perhaps.

Pretty sure he was asking about the "secret" ftp used by people around the web to spread the new RTK versions, UAD variants and so on.
