I couldn't find it either in Store, this is why I didn't provide a link. How I ended up with that UWP app was through MSI themselves; if you have a MSI board with a Realtek audio chip, you should be able to find a Universal version for RS3 and above.

Once you install that, if you go to Store, you will be able to find a Realtek Audio Control app in Downloads&Updates. This is what we can't find through searching the Store (or the web, pretty much).

If you want to try the app and don't have an MSI board, it might not work, so try at your own risk. You shouldn't need an account to access their Support section.

A few more things about 8447 and 8451. There are some structure differences between the 2 driver packages. 8451 seems to be the full "legacy" package, 139MB in size. 8447 has a 14.2 version available for download, which is what I used to update my device. The package contents seem quite different.

Another weird piece of info is that you get some new stuff into Device Manager with these "new" drivers and UWP interface, and some ICEsoundservice as well. Pretty sure I haven;t seen these before.

And the last piece of info:

8447 and 8451 seem to be two different "branches" of the driver. 8447 works with the UWP app, 8451 does not, but installing it cleanly results in the older MSI branded control panel and a properly working driver. Trying to install the UWP app over it doesn't work, gives an error. I think that we need those 14MB smaller drivers to update the driver used by UWP. The bigger 140MB packages would install the older control panel, like below:

Question is, can we still use this bigger driver packages with the new UWP UI somehow?

that's because the "small-size" driver updates are UAD (universal audio driver) based and only install under Win10 build 15063 (RS2 - v1703) or higher and won't install under build 14393 (v1607) & earlier builds of Win10.

peek inside any of those small-sized driver cab packages, open the hdxrt.inf file or any other INF file included and you'll see the following entries like this:

that indicates the drivers only install under minimum Win10 build 15063.

Just posted today 5/22: v6.0.1.8447 "full-fledged" cab driver pack from MS Update Catalog [139Mb] - NON-UAD driver; works under 64bit Windows 10 (any version, even the RTM/1507 build 10240 release of Win10)

for the full-fledged 137-140Mb something cab package, the INF files like hdxrt.inf file have something like this:

these lines indicate the driver can be installed under a 64bit Windows version as early as Vista.

    Vista = NT 6.0, Win7 = NT 6.1, Win8 = NT 6.2, Win8.1 = NT 6.3, Win10 = NT 6.4 or NT 10.0
When I was on 1803 (for the dreaded short while that I was) I searched for drivers since each major release, starting with 14xxx and moving up by build, to even the newest drivers that required FCU+, and even newer than that - none of them would install on 1803. I documented earlier in the thread the various different ones I had tried before finally giving up.

Just because M$ says it is for a version or will work on subsequent versions of WinX does not ensure that it will. And I avoided the UAD drivers, I'm talking the full drivers, both those in the 137-141 MB range and larger ones.

Starting with 1803 clean install, RealTek audio in my system showed up as Audio Endpoint, with no mention of the word RealTek at all. Upon upgrading the the Skip ahead 176xx builds, from 1803, it says RealTek again - but the driver version has corresponded to the build I am running - so, currently, on build 17672 (yes, it's an older build, for a reason), the 'RealTek' driver is published by M$ and version is 10.0.17672.1000.

I'm going back and clean installing 1709 and then installing 8447 on top of that and hoping that survives the upgrade back to the Skip Ahead / Insider builds. Hoping, but honestly, not expecting it to.

    This is M$, after all.

OK, good news then - I cannot get the UWP app to install, it keeps saying "We could not install it - we'll try again later".

I figured that since I am running the standard 17672 driver in the 17672 IP build, it should work - theoretically.

Thanks for the about the difference between 8447 and 8451. Looks like I'll be headed for 8451 instead of 8447 as stated above.

    Still no go.

I tried using CU+ driver (138.4 MB) as well as the 1803+ Servicing drivers (127 MB) from Microsoft Update Catalog as well as driver on Microsoft Update Catalog (I verified that both of those drivers are in fact the same one - exactly identical names *and* hashes).

    No go.

Tried all three - and there is that dreaded Audio Endpoint that I thought was completely gone.

I'm clean installing 1709 this weekend and calling it done.

In case you're wondering - the file names I made up myself to keep easier track of which one I was using. I used the setting to check subfolders, but I also went into each driver file to where the .INF was located and made sure to use that specific folder (still root, but didn't hurt to check).

Is there a setting in Windows that is preventing me from over riding the installed drivers for devices in WinX that is new to 1803?

Looks like you're trying to update the wrong thing. You don't want the "Audio inputs and outputs" section, you want the "Sound, video and game controllers" section:

put the Sound, video and game controllers words in bold letters as I do, IntelliMoo, so that johngalt can clearly see.

there are now several versions of the 8447 driver from MS, one recently an SST driver (127Mb)

many of my PCs & laptops using onboard Realtek audio can not effectively use the newer Realtek UAD driver (no "Realtek software components" get installed & listed in Device Manager) and can only use the complete non-UAD version like 8451, which I have recently updated to.

There's a new 6.0.1.8454 UAD version for MSI/ASUS. I installed it and it works with the new UWP app.
The driver is WHQL'd but not on the Microsoft Catalog for now, so I don't feel like linking competing forums, should be easy to find with a Google search.

What's with this flurry of Realtek drivers though? I am pretty sure that in the not so distant past I would change once every few good months. Now there's one of these new versions any week if not less. The only real "improvement" I have noticed is supporting a lighter model with UWP which I think it's good, but at the same time I don't like new services like ICESound's that appear to do nothing. Also the 3 new "Software Components" in Device Manager... would be great to know what they do, but can't find anything about those either.

In fact, I suspect that some of these things are OEM/vendor specific. I think ICESound is an ASUS thing, which would explain why it seems to be doing nothing on my MSI PC. Nahimic should be MSI's, but if you don't have a motherboard with the chip, you can forget it. When the new driver is advertising to support your OEM/vendor (like it was the case for 8454 and my MSI board), it installed the Software Components but no ICESound. I suppose drivers that were for ASUS instead installed the ICESound service on my PC. I cannot be sure though, because the ICESound service is still there with 8454, but even though it's set on Automatic, it's no longer running.

I tried the UWP version of the control panel when it was still only on their development FTP and it just didn't work, so let's see now I guess.
