For those of you with an Intel motherboard, etc, these larger updates might be of use to you:

I'm using quite an old motherboard, MSI H61-P31/W8, and the mobo site latest version for me is 6.0.1.8382. now that I know theres more recent ones, should I update it? Is the installation process any different than normal installation? is it safe for me to update even though my mobo didn't provide any updated drivers yet?

You could try to update to a newer version. With the version you have now, if I'm not mistaken, you should be fine in updating to one that's anywhere from 138 to 143 MB in size. All the updates on Microsoft are safe.

Re updating: when you choose an update to download from Microsoft Update Catalog, it's a .cab file. Once you've downloaded it and saved it to your PC, you have to extract that .cab file's contents to a new folder.
From there, you have to update via Device Manager. In Device Manager choose Realtek HD Audio under Sound, video and game controllers. Right-click on Realtek HD Audio, then choose Update Driver Software, then Browse my computer for driver software.
Then you have to browse to where you saved that folder with the latest update. and proceed from there.
If all's well, it will install the update.

I just upgraded back to the skip ahead builds, currently 17672. I'll give those and a few more a shot - for whatever reason nothing I tried would install over the drivers installed in 1803.

    No prob!
Hope it continues to work fine for you.
    @asturias7

    The driver you suggested,
is having the same issue as all the other drivers I've installed.
I'm now pretty much exhausted and don't want to download and install any more drivers,
which seem to continue producing the same issues for me.
All my efforts, have been akin to taking a shot in the dark.
There's simply no way possible, for me to know exactly which driver to install.

Hopfuly with the next Windows Build/Update.
I'll be able to sort this out.
Until then, I'm just going to leave well enough alone and keep using the driver you suggested.
Even though it's still giving me the same issues, as all the other drives have.

    Thanks asturias7,
    as well as everyone else.
For your help and suggestions with what seems to be an ongoing issue.

I've been running that driver for the past 5 days and I'd rate it as one of the best Realtek HD drivers ever.

I'd be interested to hear Brink's or John's view on posting links to Mediafire though.

MUC is pissing me off lately because it seems they are churning out updates for very specific setups...
I will give this one a go and see if I like it.
