can no one tell me what the deal is with this?
Hello, Black is normally for Bass and/or center speakers, Green is usually for front and just Stereo (2.1) speakers .

You are currently not using latest driver for your ASUS-mobo.
I think its 8351/56 , not sure, I suggest try one of these latest , if no luck you can always roll back.............

These are the latest ones on the ASUS site, so I actually have a newer version than I'm supposed to...

    As for the jacks,
    I'm using green/black/yellow for front/rear/center.

That's how I used it since I got the speakers six years ago and that's how it worked on Windows 7,
ever since I upgraded it just doesn't work... Not even the same version I used there, only like a milion years old version works but it's missing a lot of features.

You should be able to just update drivers from MS and will have Realtek control panel so you can do further adjustments. Here's mine.

Anyone care to answer my previous question?

I can't seem to get the optical output to work. Anyone has the same problem?

Well in 5.1 it uses side speakers, not rear. Somewhere in the past that definition was changed. So now 5.1 officially uses side speakers, and its 7.1 that adds rear.

I've read something like that as well but how do you explain it worked just fine on Win 7?
    Same version and everything.
