ok so i got my sound to work again but only be uninstalling realtek and letting the troubleshooter find a different driver to use. temp fix i guess? honestly not the most ideal sound quality but at least i can actually listen to it without wanting to strangle something
Did you have the generic Microsoft audio driver before you installed Realtek HD Audio v6.0.1.8110?

Thanks for the heads up. I've downloaded it, but no option to "run" it, I don't know what to do with it.

It's .CAB file, you have to mount it or unpack it somewhere before you go to Device manager > update Realtek sound driver and point it at so mounted/unpacked place. In other words, standard manual driver update.

LOL at myself. Got that one done and soon find I can not for the life of me find how to run ADWCleaner again. The only .exe file associated with it is the download/install file. It's not anywhere in the installed programs list. Said it was now part of Malwarebytes, but it's not mentioned anywhere on that Dashboard.

God, I've got a lot to learn.

Last ADWCleaner is adwcleaner_6.045.exe it's a single file, no install, just double click on it. You can find it here: Malwarebytes | AdwCleaner

That's it, setting in my Downloads folder. Like I said, I have a lot to learn. For all I think I know, this kind of thing makes me realize I don't know much after all.

    Thanks Mike.
