I'm using the ALC 1220 codec, with the GA-AX370-Gaming 5 as Mobo and Windows 10 x64 1903. Compared 8703, 8708, 8710, 8712 and 8714 vs. 8648. All the others sounds, with some minor differences, somewhat lounder compared to the well balanced 8648. Just my case...

Registered to post here - I had been using the latest driver available on ASUS's site for my board (8158). It uses the ALC892 chip onboard, connected through the optical out to a hearing aid streamer station. Windows 10 1903.

I had issues with random skips and 'drop outs'. For a bit I thought it was the streamer until I happened to pick up that distance didn't really matter when it happened.

I looked around for solutions and came across this thread speaking about drivers that were a few years newer. Looked around a bit, found a page with a copy of the generic versions. Gave it a shot, uninstalled the old driver and added 8710.1. No more dropouts and I've been listening for a few hours now.

Am I missing anything special that I'm not thinking of with using these generics vs ASUS supplied ones?

    Thanks :)

MB manufacturer's drivers are usually just drivers that pertain to that particular MB while file with those "generic" from Realtek contain drivers for all or most CODEC chips Realtek makes. MB manufacturer's drivers are usually not updated as regularly as Realtek does. In any case, drivers distributed by MB manufacturer and MS are made by Realtek.

    Note to Brink:

the 6.0.1.8678 HDA cab driver download from MUC that is 140.1Mb in size mentioned in the 1st post is not generic (does NOT include HDXRT.INF file) and is Acer specific (has only HDXSST4DA.inf file and bundles Intel SST related files for Realtek SST audio devices)

but here's the 6.0.1.8678 HDA "generic" cab driver download MS posted on MUC that is 111.6Mb in size (and includes the HDXRT.inf file)

change the link to this new 8678 HDA driver download as soon as possible (list of 8678 drivers on MUC)
