After several hours of listening I feel that these latest drivers are not quite as good as build 8176 and I've rolled back to this version.
You know, I wanted to tell you earlier that I have no idea how Realtek will top 8176 in terms of sound quality. For me, it's the best I've heard so far. I won't update now since you're usually pretty reliable in terms of your input.

yes tony thats exactly it, the last dell driver release to allow that is i believe is R2.66 which in fact several years old. I have done it myself several times. the problem is that with windows updating from Win 7, to Win 8, Win 8.1 and several versions of win 10 I always have to revert back to R2.66 if i want that interface and it gets tedious with Microsoft updating windows so often

eventually you just accept that you cant always get what you want and accept what you get.... I just wish you could get the best interface with the best sounding driver at the same time.....but realtek doesnt give you that option
ok I'm pretty late in responding to this but Dell has customized v6.0.1.8166 realtek audio drivers (J514X & C5K42) that have MaxxAudio Integration in them, which the realtek audio 6.0.1.8166 drivers from Microsoft mostly don't have; these were released this June. I don't know if this will work with older Dell laptops using older maxxaudio technology.

getting closer to the 8200s for realtek

Concerning the 6.0.1.8192, what's the difference between the 82.9MB and 137.7MB downloads since I noticed there were two sizes for each OS version.

The 82.9 MB are 32-bit and the 137.7 MB are 64-bit.

No wonder the 82.9MB ones would refuse to install. They were not marked at 32 bit.

On the Microsoft Update Catalog the first column is called Title, under that are links to the description. Left click on one of the links and It will bring up a full description of the driver. It looks like this.

Thanks, all this time I thought the 32bit and 64bit were packaged as one archive or is that only for the setup.exe based version?
