    I have a copy of 8648, but they are these(technically for Maximus X/XI and Strix Z370 & Z390 motherboards):
Realtek HD Audio Drivers (UAD - ASUS Nahimic + Sonic Studio III integration) - Last version [05/03/2019] :
    ----Drivers : 6.0.1.8648 WHQL
    ----SS3 Extension Drivers : 1.1.7.56670 WHQL
    ----NH3/SS3 APO SoftwareComponent Drivers : 1.3.0.0 WHQL

But if you want to give them a shot, I can give you a link to it, in my OneDrive sharing folder, just tell me.

To uninstall the old drivers and do a clean install of the UAD ones, you need to do every step in this post: Realtek Audio Console REQUIRES a Realtek HD (UAD) Driver!! - Page 11 - Windows 10 Forums

There is no guarentee it'll work for your board though.

    note to Brink:

v6.0.1.8673 generic HDA is now available on MUC (111.6Mb) [link to cab download]

a sidenote: Realtek altered the version number scheme with 8683 & higher; instead of 6.0.1.8683 it becomes 6.0.8683.1

Isn't DDU just as good for cleaning the drivers in safe mode?
I also have Revo Uninstaller Pro which has deep registry scanning.

I was able to get the UAD with Sonic Studio on my system with exactly the steps I wrote.
I tried to help someone else get it, but he kept skipping steps, and/or substituting programs, and couldn't get it to install.

The steps I posted are exactly the ones I did, to nuke the old HDA drivers, with Nahimic, and install the new with Nahimic and Sonic Studio III.
And now I have the best sound I have ever had with Realtek, also when using it with Dolby Atmos.

    Thanks for the explanation Cliff!
I would like to try newer drivers to see if I can get rid of the occasional pops and clicks from the only driver that works 99% of the time (8210 - old I know!), but even using DDU/Revo I haven't ever been able to find a driver that works.
Every other driver I have tried (there have been dozens from HDA/UAD) causes the sound on my headphones (front panel) to play horribly distorted sound at any volume above 15%. I've tested several other front panel adapters and different ports on the motherboard to rule out hardware.

Going back to 8210 always resolves, at least for the most part.

Maybe this is as good as it gets for this board/ALC1220 and I should just wait for my next PC build.
    AsRock are entirely unhelpful.
I've tried to disable Fastboot but still the occasional click/pop.

I meant the UAD with Sonic Studio.
No matter what driver, it sounds much better than the HDA ones(with or without Nahimic).

As far as drivers, I'm on the newest.
See my post above about what I think of it: Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version - Page 250 - Windows 10 Forums

As usual it really depends on what media player and browser, you consume your media from, as to what driver is "the best".
But as for driver type, I'll never go back to HDA ones ever again, if it can be avoided(it depends on if my next motherboard is an ROG or not)

BTW - Cliff, I noticed your signature shows a 9900k at 5.6ghz (well at least CPU-Z validation which is certainly no good indicator of a stable overclock as you know), but the voltage (vCore) shows at Zero?
Also confusing is the CPU-Z image shows an 'X Series' CPU, which the 9900k is not.
Yet the validation image is 9900K, not say 9900X

What voltage were you running? What cooling do you have?
    All cores at 5.6Ghz?

You really should get an ROG motherboard if sound is important.
They have the newest drivers ready to download as soon as they infuse the ROG parts needed, usually the latest the next day.
But you need to get them at the forums, as the product page is not that often updated(that goes for many Intel drivers also and intel ME firmware).

This is why I decided to stay with my Maximus X Hero, instead of getting the Z390 AORUS XTREME(16 actual phases)
