nearly any new HDA driver version should work with the ASUS X99A motherboard

though when checking the Specs of that board, especially audio from the ASUS site:
    X99-A | Motherboards | ASUS USA

    Audio Feature :
    - DTS Ultra PC II
    - DTS Connect
    - Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel
    - BD Audio Layer Content Protection
    - Audio Shielding: Ensures precision analog/digital separation and greatly reduced multi-lateral interference
    - Dedicated audio PCB layers: Separate layers for left and right channels to guard the quality of the sensitive audio signals
    - Audio amplifier: Provides the highest-quality sound for headphone and speakers
    - Premium Japanese-made audio capacitors: Provide warm, natural and immersive sound with exceptional clarity and fidelity
    - Unique de-pop circuit: Reduces start-up popping noise to audio outputs
    - Top notch audio sensation delivers according to the audio configuration
    - EMI protection cover to prevent electrical noise to affect the amplifier quality
X99/X99-A boards have DTS Ultra PC II, - the DLL files for DTS ultra PC ii have been removed in newer Realtek drivers from 6.0.1.8192 and beyond and the last version that had those files was R2.82 (v6.0.1.8186).

the files needed for "DTS Ultra PC II" are DTSU2PAuSrv64.exe, DTSU2PGFX64.dll, DTSU2PLFX64.dll & DTSU2PREC64.dll (for 64bit Win10 - the 32bit/x86 equivalents have a "32" in their names instead of "64"). simply gather these files from the R2.82 package, copy them onto the \Windows\System32\ folder and register their DLL files with regsvr32.exe to allow usage of DTS Ultra PC II in newer driver versions.

    Hello

Does anyone have any idea why so many people with ALC1220 have similar sound issues with pops and clicks, and even full-on deterioration of sound on certain drivers?
I've had to stay on driver version 8210 because, other than the Microsoft generic HD audio drivers it's the only one that provides 99% functional sound most of the time.

It's an issue across nearly every z270/370 board with ALC1220 regardless of manufacturer, and there's still no fix other than blaming everyone else.
It's not a PSU issue, not a grounding issue - I don't have the time to go into all the things I have tried to rule out external sources.

Globespy try disabling fast startup in the power options, it worked for me and it has never returned. Had popping sounds on my z370 board.

    Thank you!

I usually force a high performance power plan in group policy editor as windows has a habit of messing with stuff.
And looks like it managed to check fast startup even though the power plan was greyed out and supposedly "managed by your organization" (me) and I had previously disabled this!

    I'll see if it helps.
    Appreciate the reminder.
