Why? I'm confused as to why you always go back to that driver even if newer drivers sound good. I personally wouldn't suggest constantly rolling back drivers by the way. Doing that just wastes hard drive cycles in my opinion, and if a newer driver updated crucial config files (e.g. switching to a newer configuration style/format), rolling back to an older driver (like .8279) could screw up your settings and I don't think re-configuring settings would be the best way to spend time if that were to actually occur.
It shouldn't confuse you. I give all the Realtek HD Audio drivers a try out. If I prefer the sound of an older driver I just go back to it.

If reverting back to an older driver I don't just roll back, I uninstall the current driver and do a clean install of the one I'm going back to. As for screwing up my settings I never use the settings in the Realtek drivers, as I'm trying out so many different versions I always use the default settings as it gives me a benchmark I can relate to..

As an aside build 8279 has now been replaced by build 8328 as my favourite :)

Thanks for the heads up diy371.

A technician with whom I worked as an audio designer nicknamed me "The Purist" by which he meant that I refused all kinds of corrections to badly recorded records. For me, no tone controls, no loudness and everything dual mono including stepped resistor volume controls....

Of course you just can't compare that to a humble chip even when it's not that bad at all. BTW @DooGie, I still follow and listen to Joe Bonamassa, a really good guitarist and musician. Thanks for that tip.

Totally with you there fdegrove. All I have on my Hi-Fi amps is a volume control and channel selector. If the recording is lacking in bass or top end then you can't add it as it's not there in the first place :)

If you can get hold of Sheffield Steel by Joe Cocker have a listen to that. It's a good album for sorting out good and bad drivers :)

    So, does anyone like 6.0.1.8328?
My 2 cents: So far everything sounds good on my system.

Well, it definitely fixed whatever 8323 seemed to have messed up for me (like the high end was significantly reduced, and bass was too increased). Now it's better balanced again, and seems as good as 8318 was.

    I personally prefer 8328 because I forgot 8279 sounds.

Just found this thread after trying to fix some issues with being unable to open the Realtek Audio Manager with the latest drivers from their webpage. Happy to hear this sorted that.

However, I'm wondering if there is any setup which needs to be done? Should the service be allowed to start at boot? Does it actually improve the sound? I received some Philips Fidelio X2s for Xmas yet honestly can't hear the difference from my previous, low end headphones. Are there any settings I should tweak?
