Whichever way you turn it it's always going to be a simple opamp using el cheapo semi-conductors, right ?

8417 on ASUS Z97-K ,Win10 x64 , HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_10438616&REV_1003 , Driver is latest 9-4-2018 . Will keep this driver , its a very good one...........

@Brink: As sometimes happens with the smaller CAB files for 64-bit, the one you posted for 8142 doesn't work (not on my PCs anyway). Here's one from Station-Drivers, just posted there this morning, that just successfully updated those PCs for me: Realtek High Definition Audio (HDA) R2.8x (8412) WHQL.
