Windows 10: Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version

    8412 will not work for you unless your Device ID is ven_10ec&dev_0292. This is why it won't update to this version.
    The latest update that should work for you, as it has worked for most of us, is 6.0.1.8409:

    Oh, alright then. Thanks for pointing that Device ID part out. Now I understand why it won't update to that version. I originally missed that "Device ID is ven_10ec&dev_0292" tidbit before I downloaded it.

    What I don't understand also, is that when I asked windows to manually search for the latest updated audio drivers in "Device Manager", it stated I had the latest audio drivers installed; which I now know for a fact, I didn't. Then when I manually downloaded the version you gave me "6.0.1.8409" it updated to that version with no problems.

    How were you able to know that the version you gave me "6.0.1.8409" would work on my system, and why was windows arguing with me about which were the latest drivers?

    I know I have my system specs listed; but that doesn't explain to me fully how you knew that "6.0.1.8409" would work on my system.

    Could you elaborate further please on how I could always keep my audio drivers up to par if windows fails to use the "Device Manager" correctly to find them?

    "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"

    I get that response even after the most recent drivers are installed. Thanks for the suggestion though.

    It is the same thing with the "Windows Update" troubleshooter too. It states that it couldn't identify the problem; yet my windows update works just fine, so I don't really think there is a problem and when it doesn't find one, the response is the famous "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem" response always with a please leave feedback about this troubleshooter..............only if I could; boy would they get an earful.

    They want me to jump through too many hoops just to leave a simple feedback response of "Microsoft, your troubleshooters have never worked."

    I've always had to use a third-party or digicab file to repair windows update in the past because their troubleshooter never worked. What's odd, is I had to use their Microsoft Digicab tool to fix windows update; yet I had to go to a third party to get it. But that was all in the past when Windows 10 first came out.

    @EyeInTheSky When you use the Microsoft Update Catalog you get list of the drivers available. Click on the driver you want to see the details of in the left hand column underneath Title. This will open up a box with a number of tabs across the top. Click on the Package Details Tab and you will get a list of all the compatible Realtek hardware.

    I'm following along here a little bit. So, I'm assuming that I must have the same hardware ID as a given new driver for it to work on my machine - is that correct?

    So how do you know what your device ID or hardware ID for Realtek High Definition Audio is on your computer? So this way you can check to see if a given available update will work by comparing id numbers?

    Is it in device manager/sound video game controllers/Realtek High Definition Audio/details?

    Where do I look exactly for the info (device ID?) I need to know to determine if a new driver with a Device ID like ven_10ec&dev_0292 will work on my laptop?

    Yours clearly says dev_282 so I would guess that unless RealTek specifically says the Dev_282 and dev_292 are the same hardware, you should probably not try to install it (but if you do try, Windows hsould simply refuse to install it, so no real harm done).

    I did try to install the latest for HP a few days ago and the installation failed and then I had problems trying to reinstall the original driver and finally I had to do a reformat.

    Other times with cab with very latest drivers it would state that I have best drivers.

    So to ensure less issues and a high probability of a successful install I should only look to install new Realtek drivers with a supported hardware ID of dev 0282 on my laptop?

    (or Device ID is ven_10ec&dev_0282)?
