I have installed New Realtek R2.78 Drivers on my laptop with the latest release version 10122. But it is not working fine. I think I need to update my audio driver.

I'm guessing the .cab file name is a hash checksum MS calculates for the .cab. You can be guaranteed it's unique and will change when anything is changed in the cab, even if minor like a comment

Again, great work in noticing the cab filename change! That's a great find!

I don't know how the MUC release process works but it's clear MS allows (minor?) tweaks to a release even after its published.

Lesson learned, it's a good reason to note and track the cab filename installed. It's another reason 2 different people get somewhat different results with the "same" release. Knowing both release # and cab filename could be helpful for when someones helping debug
Yes, that's an excellent point! In this particular case the changes are rather more significant than (say) a text comment and I find it all rather curious. Oh to have regular release notes for these driver updates!

    Found something new in 15002:
    Attachment 116645
That's an interesting find. Is that on the Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 shown in your system specs? If so it's the same Realtek codec as mine (ALC1150). I'm tempted to give 15002 a whirl myself! May I ask what Realtek driver version you were using when you took that screenshot?

Ah yes, my mistake. I was looking at the R5 version of the GA-990XA-UD3. Thanks for the information.

It would seem that the 8029 (x64) driver on Microsoft's Update Catalog has been revised again. The new CAB filename is as follows:

    c0d1d982-a0e1-47ba-99dd-2f73731c7c11_430723bd43ab510e85f43495118cf03d3bd4a80c.cab

The contents have changed too. I can't comment on the 32 bit version as I don't use that one.

For this release we've gone through three revisions so far! All of them are 6.0.1.8029 but with changes between each revision. I can only assume that the changes are too insignificant to warrant a new driver number.

EDIT: As an additional point of interest, only the first version works on my Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming 5 motherboard with Realtek ALC1150 codec. The second and third revisions cause a Code 39 in Device Manager due to a missing mbfilt64.sys file.

Realtek HD Audio Driver R2.81 has been released by Realtek today. It can be found at the Realtek website that is linked to on first page. It is version 6.0.1.8036.

Microsoft Update catalog has a version 6.0.1.8037 on it webpage.

I could not get the Microsoft Update driver to load using device manager. It said the driver installed was the latest. I think that the driver from Realtek and Microsoft Update catalog are actually the same driver.

Realtek must be assume Creative is installed along with the Realtek driver? Their QA must have it installed when QA does their testing. This is one heck of a bug not to be caught. So much for QA

I'm beginning to think these Microsoft Update Catalog drivers are not the best choice for general use, at least not if you want a reliable and hassle free installation. I may go back to using the drivers offered on the Realtek website. They're not updated as often but for me they've always been dependable. It's only curiosity that makes me want to try every new release!
