    Hi,

I installed build 8023 last night, so far I'm thinking it doesn't sound as good as build 8018.
I'm sticking with version 8000. Sounds errr... dare I say it, valve-like.

    Cheers,

I may give build 8000 a try again Frank, for now though I'm back on 8018

Thanks, as always, for your opinion DooGie.
I just thought I would share the release. I haven't updated and 8018 sounds good to me on my pc.

    Hi,

Might be just me but 8018 causes clipping distortion when using system .wav files (IOW it's too loud) andl istening to you tube at the same time. No such issue (minor, I admit) with 8000.

The most balanced version to my ole ores so far.

    Cheers,

I don't get any clipping with 8018, as I frequently point out to other users it's always best to try builds out on your own system. What sounds good to me may not on on another users system.
As for clipping 8010 was the worst for me.

Need to check this but that might have been the offending one. I'll check and confirm this if I haven't nuked it yet....

Hard to keep up with RT. What happened to changelogs ??

Hi, Quite inexperienced. Wanting to improve my sound from my realtek alc887.

I notice the above post, 8000 and valve like. Sounds promising.

I'm currently running from 3.5 to RCA to AMP to 2 channel speakers.

I have found I have 6.0.1.7453 on my system. Not sure if it's ever been updated since I got the computer last year.

Noticing the sound is a bit bright/harsh... would just like a smoother sound.

I still don't know what clipping means. Would like to test that.

Anyway where can I find these 8000 drivers, link please?

Also is it just a matter of downloading the driver and clicking the "update driver..." button or are there other steps?

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome Parity.
Newest drivers you can download from that link above, it's a .zip file so you have to unzip it to a folder and run Setup.exe which would uninstall old drivers and install new ones with two restarts.
Other drivers you can download from MS in the form of .cab file, need to mount it and update drivers from Device manager.
I suggest you make a Restore point so you can go back if necessary.
Clipping is when at high volume sound gets cut or distorted or can also be applied to when lowest or highest tones are missing or distorted although there's another name for that (which I can't remember right now of course).

It's version R2.80 (8004) actually. You can find a link and download them from page 1 of this thread.

    Clipping: (Source: Wikipedia)

Clipping is a form of waveform distortion that occurs when an amplifier is overdriven and attempts to deliver an output voltage or current beyond its maximum capability. Driving an amplifier into clipping may cause it to output power in excess of its power rating.

Clipping is when the audio level goes above the maximum that can encoded in digital. Anything above the maximum gets the maximum value and this sounds as a distortion when played back. I have seen a similar effect with inappropriate audio drivers because the encoding/decoding of the audio data is done outside the specifications of the audio chipset. Once I uninstalled the faulty drivers and installed better ones the issue disappeared.
