I recently bought an MSI B450 board with an ALC892. Using the HDA drivers (all versions) the "Enhancements" tab (in Windows Sound > Speakers Properties) where Loudness Equalization, EQ, etc. should be is totally missing. I assume it's because MSI intends for me to use the "Nahimic" bloatware to access those settings since the MSI version of the audio control panel works, but has some "launch Nahimic" button where the effects should be.

Is there any way to get this back without installing Nahimic garbage? I won't do that. I'd sooner use Windows default driver. I really need the Loudness Equalization. Some registry tweak? INF modding? Anything?

EDIT: I found a...'solution'. Using an older driver 6.0.1.8228 (my old favorite). Apparently ~anything newer has the Nahimic dependency garbage...unless I can learn a way to work around/remove it. I would think I could edit the INF file or something, but would not know where to start.

" Coming from 8597 windows says I already have latest driver installed. " ..........its very new , have a look tomorrow !
    Not in the catalogus yet............
not the HDA version, only the UAD version of 8597. ditto for 8603 - UAD driver only.

new HDA (non-UAD) drivers appear less frequently on MUC.

v6.0.1.8612 HDA & UAD recently posted on Github:
    Releases · alanfox2000/realtek-hda-release · GitHub

I'll update 8603 HDA to 8606 HDA for most of my PCs except the one with the Gigabyte motherboard. On the Gigabyte board in the custom PC I have, I'll update that one from 8597 UAD to 8612 UAD since that one handles UAD drivers better than HDA (nonUAD) drivers - I do UAD driver updates more frequently than HDA/nonUAD drivers.

ok whats the difference between the HDA and UAD? I suppose I need the HDA as my chip being realtek HD audio, or do I need the UAD?

Hi people I have got a question. Is there any UAD driver out there for an old Asrock Z77 Extreme4 mobo ALC898 ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0899&SUBSYS_18491898&REV_1000. It seems I can not find a valid one. I am using HDA Version 6.0.1.8603 from Download · alanfox2000/realtek-universal-audio-driver Wiki · GitHub for now. Thanks

To the best of my understanding...

HDA = Regular, full featured driver with the control panel and all the settings/features included (except MSI, others(?) who forces yet another 3rd party Nahimic program?). Much larger, in the 140 MB range. Works on all Windows version...for now.

UAD = Smaller 8-30 MB, stripped down driver where the control panel and settings/features are acquired separately from Windows Store. Only works on newer Windows 1803(?) and later...except LTSC that has no store...duh! the driver works but you can't get the control panel.

I decided to go back to using HDA drivers. Is something wrong on my side, or the Realtek HD Audio Manager (and its tray icon) don't exist anymore? I'm using the latest version of the driver - 8612.

    Thanks.

It typically doesn't show for generic drivers. If you want the icon and the app, you'll have to use the specific driver package for your motherboard. That looks to be "Realtek high definition audio driver ver:7614" from Asrock, and it should have the icon/working app.

There's a good chance you can find much newer drivers with support and they could work, but I can't say exactly which ones.

Right. Well I used to download everything from MUC (generic), and those always showed the tray, hence the panel. I don't get mine from ASRock because they're years behind with the drivers.

Well, either way. Thanks for the info.

    Edit:

Never mind. I downloaded another generic driver and it's all there now.
