I would download what I call the "base" driver for future updates, meaning the one provided on Realtek's website.
In this case, it would be R2.82, which is version 6.0.1.8186.
You can download it here (choose one of the two first options in bold, whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit):
    Realtek
It's an executable file and just follow instructions once opened.

Once you have that base driver, you can go ahead and try to update to the latest version from MUC via Device Manager method. Let me know if this solves your problem.

Thank you for the reply. I just did that, but it didn't make a difference, except that I lost the HD Audio Manager in the CP and tray. I tried all the methods that were mentioned months ago to get it back, but no dice. As far as the speaker settings don't stick, I noticed something else weird. After right clicking the tray Windows speaker tray icon once, the opening the speaker settings and setting it up again, it will not lose the settings when doing it again. But after the next reboot, the problem starts over. If I knew where these settings are saved, I could go into permissions of the file and try to remove them for anything other than me. Does anybody know where the speaker settings are saved?

I know this is pressing the same topic about the control panel, but got a rather interesting answer from Realtek:

Well the weird thing is that the ravcpl.exe and the other files are still there in the install folders. So somewhere in the setup it is being told not to get registered, I just don't know where.

The sound is very clean and precise but with plenty of tight bass. Not a lot different to build 8273. All in all another good driver
