I think it's a good driver. Plenty of body and detail to the sound.
I agree. Been listening to some music for a few hours and must say I like the latest update. Bass is at the right level (imho), lots of detail and not muffled up like some past updates.

Thanks @s0urce. Interestingly this is the time time an update has prompted me to restart.

They appear to only be servicing drivers.

What does that mean. I thought it had removed the systray icon but it just took ages to appear.

Anyone know what DAX2 and DAX3 are in regards to realtek drivers?

They uploaded 3 new drivers to the FTP on the 25th for skylake. One is older than the 273, the other 2 have a higher number. 278 and 279.

As far as I know DAX2 stands for Dolby Atmos X2. DAX3 is more or less the same but is specifically for Lenovo laptops.

I have a different problem, and googling it didn't yield any solutions: I am on Win10 FCU 16999, ALC888S and went from original 6.0.1.6662 to 6.0.1.8275 from MCU via CAB file extraction and update via Device Manager. Got the CP icon and tray icon, everything works.
HOWEVER, mostly after a restart or startup in general ALMOST every time I just right click on the Windows tray speaker icon, my speaker configuration reverts to stereo from either 5.1 or 7.1. It also resets the default format. It acts like as if I just installed a new driver and you have to set everything from scratch. Why does this not keep the settings if I just do that?

Tell me if this works for you.
I would download what I call the "base" driver for future updates, meaning the one provided on Realtek's website.
In this case, it would be R2.82, which is version 6.0.1.8186.
You can download it here (choose one of the two first options in bold, whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit):
    Realtek
It's an executable file and just follow instructions once opened.

Once you have that base driver, you can go ahead and try to update to the latest version from MUC via Device Manager method. Let me know if this solves your problem.
