    Wow i have updated my drivers tones of times from the catalog i always seem to get better sound when i do, i have never once had windows tell me it could not install them, in fact its usually the first thing MSI tells me to do when i have a audio issue is to install the newest realtek drivers.

    Well, just one last trick. Install latest driver which will install Dell audio panel. Then extract files from R2.79 to a folder, locate the Realtek HD audio panel installer (exe or msi) and manually install only that, not the driver. I'm just guessing, not sure if applicable, but you get the idea.

    DRIVER VERSION: 6.0.1.8040
    (Only 64-bit Windows)
    Download at:
    I happened to discover this while looking into someone's issue: These are different downloads containing two very different sets of driver installation files (though, technically, both install Realtek 6.0.1.8040 files)

    • The Microsoft .cab includes many, many different INFs. It provides 6.0.1.8040 driver installation for a very wide variety Realtek HD audio chips
    • The Softpedia cab has only one INF and it also installs DigitalDolby app. It's intended for a specific set of Realtek chips that support the Digital Dolby app. It only installs 6.0.1.8040 driver files to support only the devices defined within that single INF

    I extracted the cabs and sorted by type is when the differences jumped out at me. MS snapshot on left. Softpedia on right
    p.s. they have different cab filenames. Also a clue that something's different
    /* EDIT */
    Point being i don't think you want to keep the Softpedia link

    Probably they modify and customize them before they release at their site. In that case you better install their version.
