Stop external hard drive from turning off so quickly when connected.

    Windows 10 Home 1909

Not sure if this is right part of the forum. Please move if it isn't.

USB suspend does not seem to appear in my settings. Am I able to get these settings back or is there another way I can control the amount of time before the external hard drive turns its power off?

I just changed the removal policy to 'Better Performance' and Windows is saying a restart is required for this change to take place.
Can't remember having to restart Windows when doing this before when using Windows 8.1.

Some BIOSes may have a setting for controlling power to USB ports, might check there before working with Settings, System, Power features.

As for the rebooting, Windows writes to the Registry any number of changes the User can make but the rebooting is required to reload the Registry so Windows is current as to what the User wanted. It's been less frequent in the last few version of Windows compared to back in the '90s when most everything a User did required rebooting.
